Media Server and XP Home
« on: September 24, 2002, 04:45:46 am »

Am not able to access home library from the office using media server. Details follow.

Installed MJ 8.0.373 (EMusic tester) on new machine running XP Home - 2.2Gig, P4, 512kDDRAM. Installed same build on office computer. 2X the home IP address, accessed the library locally through the server. Running Zone Alarm, with pass-lock selected for MJ and the server both. XP Home firewall inoperative.

Nothing new or different in the office firewall to account for the problem. No prior problems accessing library remotely.

Any other places I should look?

Thanks.....HTH

Uninstall zone alarm?

Double check XP settings.

If you have a router / access point, you need to make sure it passes packets bound for whatever socket you are running it on to the right IP address.  If it worked before, are you now using a different IP address?

All of the above problems are not MJ problems, so please don't expect us to solve them.  Others here may be more kind-hearted, but this can take loads of time to chase down.

Other threads here may give you clues if you do a search.  There was a thread on this subject from about a month ago in which kind soul (JimHus?) spent a lot of time helping someone else get theirs going.

can't connect for here also.

so we know it is the media server.

No proxy?

Maybe You could Un-Install the firewall and not just disable it for a test.

you ccould also do a manual port selection in the server settings to maybe 81 and test it again just incase port 80 is in use.

We know that Media Server is running and working on that port (80) because he can connect locally.

King:

ZA uninstalled, server port left at 80 for the moment, no proxy, no network, no routers. If this doesn't work, I'll reset the port.

This is a new IP address. Cable connection.

Thanks for the help.

It Is Working Now.

So as i was saying it was the computer that you had media server runing on, and not the computer you were connecting from.

you must not have had zone alarm setup correctly. or something else with it was wrong.

i know it works with zone alarm because i have it working with ZoneAlarm Pro

But I believe we've seen this same behavior before with ZA.
