Podcasts deleted
« on: February 10, 2006, 09:19:07 am »

This build erased all my Podcast-files from disk.
Not a big thing for me as my use of Podcast is experimental only.

As soon as i edit an option under /tools/options/podcast or edit a feed option i get the message "Do you want to delete the empty folders.....".

I can press the no button, but the files are already purged and marked as deleted.

All my feeds have file-number (i.e last 20) or storage limits.

They're probably still there on disk.  Try searching in Explorer.  Check your Options for Pocasts.

Took some time to scan my discs. Did not find any Podcast-file anywhere.

To give you more details:
- I can click the Episode-Status of every episode in every feed and i get all the files downloaded on my disk again (e:\My Music\Podcast\...).
- I can see every file with the Windows-Explorer
- I change any option under /tools/options/Podcast (i.e. Delete when all Episodes exceed x GB from 2 to 3) and press the OK button.
- all the Podcast files are deleted from disk
- No boundaries or limits of my Podcast options were exceeded

I just reproduced this, and it looks like I fat-fingered it in the last build.

I will post again when I have thoroughly tested the fix.

thanks,

I have also Podcast deletion problems:

I transfer them to my iPod, play them on my iPod, connect my iPod to MC, the played podcasts are deleted from MC.

The moment I sync my iPod again, all playlists on my iPod are broken, all showing 1 song of the same artist.

I re-initialized my iPod, redid all steps and it happened again.

Something is really wrong here.

I now have a tested fix.  The problem was that we incorrectly included all the episodes you could download, together with all the episodes you did download as using space on your disk.   Hence if there were 6 Gigs of data you hadn't downloaded with 2 Gigs you did download, we computed a disk usage of 8 GB on the disk.

Now suppose you chose to delete episodes to keep your disk space at 5 GB.  In an attempt to do this, we deleted everything on your disk, and found you were still 1 GB over, and continued to delete everything you downloaded.

The fix is in for today's build.   If you *must* download podcasts in the meantime, set "Options->Podcast->Delete when all episodes exceed" to 100 GB or so.

Thanks again for the bug report, and sorry about the download time,

I think this is two intertwined problems.  We have been working to add Podcasts to the iPod "Podcast" menu items,  an oft-requested option.

This sounds like a problem with the new feature.  We are trying to reproduce and fix this right now.

thanks for the bug report, and sorry for the inconvenience,

Still happening with the latest build

It looks like this is happening when the iPod syncs information back to MC.
If I click on Sync, all is fine again.

bennyd,
Try turning off the sync back to see if that's what is causing it.

Same problem BUT:

I noticed that it only affects the playlists on the iPod while the iPod is connected to MC.
If disconnecting the iPod and looking at the playlists on my iPod, they are ok.
So in fact, nothing's wrong but MC is just displaying it wrong.

Just fyi - I have had this happen twice (both times with .117).
The first time a re-initialize, re-load fixed it.
The second time, re-syncing with .118 fixed it.

Not sure if it is 'fixed' with .118 or I just got lucky, but if this happens try adding/deleting one song and re-sync.

edit - to clarify:  I am talking about the playlist repeating the same entry issue.

I'm on 118 and I'm having the playlist problem.  Didn't notice it with 117 but maybe I hadn't looked at my play lists.  I'm certain someplace before that it worked fine..113 or so.
