Cell Phones as music players
« on: February 15, 2006, 06:23:44 pm »

A couple of things have happened this week that are encouraging.

Motorola announced that a new line of phones would mount as removable disks and be able to do MTP transfers.  This will allow music service downloads to be transferred to phones easily, even with the current MC.

This is good news for users, I think.  You'll see your phone as a drive, just like an ordinary USB drive.

What do we call these new devices?  iPhones?  iPhods?

When I first connected my Smartphone to MC it recognised the Smartphone first as a phone, next as Storage, then as the Storage Card.  After some fiddling about and some advice from jriver (Matt, I think) I was able to synch the Music folder on the Storage Card as a device.

Is this what you are talking about, or something different?  Does a Smartphone need ActiveSync installed to work with MC?  I've never fully understood the difference between a phone and a mobile device like my Archos GMini.  I'd appreciate it if anyone could give me an explanation.
