I can't get MC 11.0.111 to play a copy of my DVDs.  I used DVDShring to make a backup copy (uncompressed in original *.ifo *.vob format) to my hard drive.  I can play my movies with PowerDVD, Zoomplayer and TheaterTek, but not with MC.  I get the following error:

* 2 out of 3 DVD-video streams failed to render properly
  -audio stream
  -subpicture stream

Why do all the other programs work with these files, but not MC?

PLEASE HELP!!

Try build 123, available in a thread near the top here.  A change for DVD's was made a few builds ago.

I tried both suggestions without success.  Here is my file structure:

c:\movies\american_pie\video_ts\*.ifo
c:\movies\american_pie\audio_ts\*.*

I have tried "searching" in the import function the following root directories:

c:\movies
c:\movies\american_pie
c:\movies\american_pie\video_ts

In each case, I ended up with one file as Jaguu suggested I would.  But when I play it, I get the same error message as described in my original email.  Again, no other video playback software has a problem.  Only MC.  What gives??

It *should* play ok with MC if WMP plays it.

Can I NOT copy DVDs, that I own, in their native file format to my hard drive and play them using MC or WMP?  Must I rip them into another format before I can play them in MC?

PS- I *am* using DVDShrink to copy my DVDs, not just a simple copy using windows explorer.

Yes, if you can play DVD's with MC from the original disc in the DVD drive, you should be able to play the copied movies from your hard drive just fine with MC.

Can you play the original discs with MC (and WMP)? If not, and you can play them with Zoomplayer, there must be some conflict with multiple mpeg2 audio decoders on your system. We haven't solved this problem yet. For now, a first step might be to look in "add/remove programs" to see if there is some DVD playback software that you don't need and you can uninstall it. Then re-install your main DVD playback software (Power DVD?) and see if that helps. See if you can check in the Zoomplayer and/or Theatertek options to see which audio and video decoders they are using.

Legally in the USA, no.  It is a violation of the DMCA to circumvent copy protection measures even if you are only format shifting materials that you own.  Realistically though, you can...

You shouldn't have to convert the DVD files in order to use them through MC, but it certainly makes life a lot easier (and is lots less hard on the hard disk space requirements).

Check out AutoGK (and here is a tutorial on using it with DVD Decrypter to create AVI's out of your DVD movies).

Thanks, JohnT and Glynor.  I'm going to be out of town for a few days.  I will try your suggestions this weekend.

I do have a followup question for Glynor.  I haven't had a chance to read the AutoGK stuff, but can you tell me if this process leaves me with the same video and audio quality that I get when I copy the *native* DVD?
