Conversion problem WMA lossless to FLAC
« on: March 09, 2006, 08:42:21 am »

I am using 11.1.141 and MC crashes when I try to convert Michael Bublé's or other French named artists' songs in WMA lossless format to FLAC format.  It seems like it has trouble with French characters.

Please try to identify where the problem is.

Do you have the same problem if you convert to WAV?

What if you convert that WAV to FLAC?

Check your FLAC plug-ins and make sure they are up to date.  User scthom is the auther.  You'll find his thread on the Third Party board here.

I downloaded the FLAC encoder plugin and retried to convert but crashed again.  Converting to uncompressed WAV worked fine.

I saved the converted WAV file on my desktop.  Then I double clicked on the WAV file, MC says "waiting" and stays "waiting".  I tried opening with Windows Media Player 10 and it plays the WAV file fine.

While MC shows the file in "Playing Now", error dialog box appears and says "failed to convert" when I select the file and start conversion to FLAC.

When I chaged Regional and Language Options (advanced) on the Control Panel, and selected English (United States) for Language for non-Unicode programs, and restart my PC, MC played the WAV file!  I also tried converting the previously mentioned WMA lossless file to FLAC and it worked this time.

I don't know why but it works now.

Interesting.  I think that's an MC issue as opposed to the plugin, but I'm not sure.  Will put it on the list of things to investigate.  Thanks for reporting this.
