Video files won't play - directx error. PLS help

Hello,
After Windows XP fresh install, Media Center wouldn't play any video files - gives me an error message - cannot determine the version of Microsoft DirectX, and gives me an option either to download the newest DirectX or exit.
I have DirectX 9.0c (installed and reinstalled). Reinstalled Windows Media Player 10. Didn't help.
Video (divx, xvid) files do play fine in Windows Media Player and Zoomplayer, only MC11.1 refuses to play.
Any idea, anyone?

Well.. I reinstalled the XP and it helped (what a surprize).
Still don't understand what went wrong..
Any idea? Anyone?
