Hi!

I love the LS feature, but after some use, I have some questions:
1. Connecting through internet. I simply can't get this to work!!! Local (192.168.*.*) isn't any problem, except that the client is a tad fast on timing out. Sometimes when my laptop lags, I get a connection failed after just a second, although the server is started.
But how should I go about getting connecting via internet to work? I can't even get it right at home. I'm using a D-link 624 wireless router but using the current external IP assigned by my ISP doesn't help. And the very generic error msg "Failed to connect" doesn't help neither. I have set up port forwarding to my desktop.

2. Editing settings on the client. Since my ISP gives me dynamic IP's I'd like to change the external IP number in File > Library > Library manager once in a while (even if connecting through internet currently doesn't work). But it's greyed out. The only solution is to delete the current setting and create a new. Why?

Thanks for your help!
/Martin

1.  Your Windows firewall may be blocking requests.

2.  Maybe your client connection is open?  Try switching the client to the default library.

Thanks for replying Jim!

1. Haven't got around to test it yet, will be back on this one.

2. Nopes. Setting MC to default (local) library doesn't do it. The only thing I can edit is the name for the library...

Mr 3D

If you get a dynamic IP address from your ISP, why not do as I do, and regsiter for a (FREE) account at http://www.dynalias.net ?

That way, if you set your router up properly, every time it connects and gets assigned a new IP address, it will inform the dynalias network about the new address.

The router should have a section devoted to DDNS or Dynamic DNS somewhere in its config.

That way you can always refer to your home network (web server or whatever) as, for example, "marty3d.dynalias.net" and it will always resolve.

Your inside addresses should NOT be the same as your outside addresses.

I use 192.168.1.x inside, and whatever the ISP assigns me is always current at Dynalias.net for the outside.

Your port forwarding will always point to the inside address. That's the idea of port forwarding - to forward traffic coming in on an internet legal (outside) address to an internet ILLEGAL (inside) address...

Just an idea...

Thank you for your reply, LunchmeatVoom!
Yes, I've thought about getting a dynamic IP account like dynip or dynalias again. But first things first, if I can't connect to my external IP, I can't connect to it via a service like that.

BUT! Of course, JimH was right...it's our favourite firewall software Zonealarm that blocks the requests. I've been hammering away without being able to open that port in ZA...

...time passes...

Eureka (a wonderful game released to the c-64, in the early 90's if I'm not mistaken)!

Got it! Now I finally can connect to MC through Internet :) Hopefully, I can get there from my client as well...

So the one thing that's left now is why can't I edit the properties for a library in File > Library > Library manager?

Thanks all!
