BearShare causing problems?
« on: September 17, 2002, 03:48:09 pm »

Has there been any problems with MJ users that also use BearShare?
I recently installed Bearshare and then my MJ started crashing.
MJ would just disappear after about 90 seconds.  I removed Bearshare (which alone didn't fix the problem) and also upgraded to 3.720 (which seemed to have fixed it).

This problem was similar to a one I had a month ago, where MJ would constantly crash after 90 seconds and popup the "crack" web page.

OS Win2000 SP2

Some more info my Event Viewer keeps failing a Windows File Protection on regtrace.exe, it can't find it to copy into the DDL cache

I had the same problem. A normal control panel uninstall did not solve the problem. I used Norton Cleansweep, and then reinstalled and everything was okay. But, I also contacted Bearshare (fixed it myself before they got back to me), and they told me that all the "dross" must be removed as well - the DAT files it leaves behind in the incomplete folders etc. If you remove it all and reinstall you should be okay. Bearshare is good - I was a long time Limewire user until Bearshare.

Thx

Thanks guys for the initial help.    I guess I'll have to try  another one of those things-I-can't-talk-about if I want to use MJ with confidence.   ;D

Is there anyway to at least get some information on this whole "crack" thing when MJ crashes.  The older version used to go to a web page, now MJ just disappears without any indications.  Or is that the whole "top-secret" thing I read on the Thread about "No P2P discussions".

No.  We don't discuss details about our copy protection.

It sounds like you had a cracked copy of MJ.

KingSparta, what's illegal about P2P software?
Why, I believe there is a good example of it leading potential customers to the doors of this establishment on this very forum. That's apart from all the legitimate uses of it I've already seen mentioned.
I reckon the percentage of mp3 enthusiasts with collections in the thousands who personally own a copy of each one is very small indeed.

P2P software isn't illegal.

Sharing files that are copyrighted by others is.

JRiver would like to steer clear of the legal problems this creates.

We believe that copyright is important and should be respected.

End of story.  Thread locked.
