Feature Request: Lyrics Support for Ipod Video
« on: March 30, 2006, 06:54:51 pm »

Please please please, we need Lyrics support for syncing with Video Ipods.

I'm in the process of adding lyrics to about 80% of my collection, and without this, it's just not worth using MC for syncing my ipod.

PLEASE!

Lyrics will be supported in the next build of MC 11.1.

Let us know how it works for you.

Excellent news!!!

But , are you talking about Media Center 11.1.161... cause I did not see anything about this in the features list.

If not what build, and when will that be available?

thanks again.  8)

Excellent!  And such coincidental timing.  I for some reason decided to play with King Sparta's lyrics plug-in and download lyrics for my songs.

I have tried it out, and it works fine.  The problem is that MC does not force a sync when lyrics are added to a file that already exists on your iPod.  So, I had to initialize the iPod and sync everything all over again.  This will become a real hastle as I continue to add lyrics to my songs little by little.  Is there anyway that MC can be enhanced to automatically force the sync?

Thanks for this awesome feature!

i think you don't need to resynch all again. just set on of the 5 stars and mc syncs the file again...
... but how do I activate the lyrics in the ipod?

gany,

As long as you have a 5G Ipod you do not have to do anything to activate lyrics.  As long as you have the lyrics in MC they will transfer over when you sync (you will need to replace the current file...easiest to just re-initialize and re-transfer).  Once the songs are back on the Ipod you will just press the center button 3 times while you are playing the song and it will display the lyrics.

Of course, if you have anything other than a 5G ipod, this will not work.

Great... I'm not sure I understand though.. set what to 5 stars. you mean you have to set the tunes to a rating of 5 start to have it overwrite the ones in Ipod?

It would be easier if there was a setting on MC to overwrite existing files...

I too am in the process of doing cover art and lyrics and am waiting to finish the library before redoing the ipod but it would be easier to simply set MC to overwrite the files....

By re-initialize, you mean wipe out the ipod and start over... that's a hassle.

Too bad as I already have  a good mix of tunes with lyrics and no lyrics... there's gotta be a better way... too bad you can't set it to Overwrite...

:-[ The lyrics do not show up on the IPOD when synced with MC... yet they show up in MC when playing them off the device.

I removed the existing tunes etc... but they simply do now show up in the Ipod...

And lyrics and album covers that were synced with itunes do not show up in MC (when playing from the device) at all...

It should not be this compliacted...

Reinitialize.  Then test with one or two files before doing more.

If the ID3v2 tags have lyrics, they should show up on the 5g.

What do you mean by reinitialize, you mean wipe out the ipod?

The files do have ID3v2 tags the lyrics are there... they show up fine if I sync via ITunes but not via MC.

Also, lyrics AND covers that were in the ipod to begin with do not show up in MC either... when playing them from the device via MC.

I'm not sure what I'm supposed to see there that I have not alread read about...

The REbuild database menu item does not show up. so the only other option would be to initialize :(

So I really have to wipe out 6000+ tracks to start adding lyrics support with this latest build... that  bites.

Hopefully it will work if I give it a shot.

thanks...

Well re-initializing the ipod worked but It did not work at first with 11.1.62, it finally did with 11.1.63. weird...

anyway, at least Lyrics now work.

Now if we could only force an overwrite of files on sync...

I don't know what's worse having duplicates (which is what Itunes does) or having to remove files in order to replace them...

I can get the lyrics to work fine on most mp3 files when they are transferred to my 5G iPod via Media Center... but the lyrics are not transferring for my podcast mp3 files, even though they show up fine in Media Center.  Similarly, the lyrics from my m4p files purchased through iTunes are not transferring at all even though they also appear in Media Center just fine.

Does this lyrics support include transferring iTunes music or does it support podcasts?
