Did you stop the server first before you changed the port?

yes

Are you doing port forwarding on your router for the port you use?  And is your firewall open on the port?

There's network help here:

I changed my port number as I've been having problems, and I wondered if they were maybe caused by listening on port 11180 and trying to access broadcasts on that port at the same time. Is that likely?
No.  It would work.  The reason the error message was 11080 is that MC reports the failure from the previous try each time you connect (because it can't "push" a message to you on the port -- you can only "pull" it).

Yes, and yes.

I'm seeing an established connection to perbcast.jriver.com on port 80.
I'm also showing as listening on port 11190, albeit with a local address of 0.0.0.0

0.0.0.0 ~ is that 'default' interface or 'all' interfaces? (I only have the one NIC on this machine)

03/24/06 12:42:04 - JRiver UPnP Server Version 1.0.5 starting...
03/24/06 12:42:04 - Perbcast Server started on port 11190
03/24/06 12:42:04 - Running
03/24/06 12:42:04 - Broadcasting escher
03/24/06 12:42:06 - Broadcasting escher
03/24/06 12:44:10 - There is a problem with accessing your PerbCast content.
The following text is what is returned when trying to access:
 An Error Occurred
500 Can't connect to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:11180 (connect: Invalid argument)

I just reset to port 11180 and immediately got a hit on my broadcast...

When you switch ports, it takes a few minutes for the web page to update.  It should happen when you stop and restart the server, but you might have to exit from MC.  We could have a bug there.

Thanks for trying.

I can see your pictures now.

I'm currently using port 11180.

I still see this stop/start loop regardless of which port I serve on:

03/24/06 13:19:52 - Stopping Broadcast of escher
03/24/06 13:19:52 - Broadcasting escher
03/24/06 13:19:54 - Stopping Broadcast of escher
03/24/06 13:19:54 - Broadcasting escher

Is that normal?

At least, if you got the pictures, it shows that the router is set up correctly.

library browsing is also extremely slow with the perbcast server running.
I was wondering if the slowdown, and the stop/start thing was anything to do with the port config, which was why I experimented with 11190, which I think, is still not working quite right.

There may be some performance problems that we can look at later.  For now, are you modifying the playlist that is being broadcast?  When you do, the perbcast server will stop and restart the broadcast to update the rss file on our directory.  Is it a smartlist?

Take a look at your log in the perbcast server window to see if anyone is playing any of the files.

Just wondering if a play-list contained a few podcast lists from another site

If MC would allow that to be sent Thu perbcast.

I think so, but I'm not sure.

Your Old Time Radio podcast is working fine for me.

I'm not modifying the list, but yes, it is a smartlist. The escher pictures are tagged using escher as the [artist] and the smartlist rule is simply ar=escher.

I'll pop them into a static playlist and see if that makes any difference.

it's all gone a bit quiet in this thread :)

any news regarding some of the privacy options mentioned above?

Is anyone out there enjoying the image broadcasts on offer?

I stopped broadcasting smartlists, and the repeated stop/start messages went away. Does this mean that smartlists don't work quite so well, or is this expected behaviour?

Would some form of commenting system be possible on the listings pages do you think?

Hi Marko,

I'm working on a lot of these, but it's been a hectic few days...
Look for new developments soon.

This evening I stumbled over the "broadcast properties" dialogue :)

My next question is,

Could we possibly have a resize option for image files?

Hi Marko,

None of those options work at the moment, sorry...
(or in other words, I could stick in resize images, but it wouldn't do much :) )

This is a pretty exciting new feature you are developing!

The Broadcast Properties look really promising.

Add my request for a resize option for image files.

I don't know if this has been mentioned already, but some visual indication (change in icon or icon color) that a playlist is being broadcast would be nice.

It would also be great if the broadcast playlist was in the same order as the playlist, this is very important for music playlists as well as images where you'd like to provide a story in a certain sequence.

John Gateley is re-tooling the back end to allow us to convert on-the-fly and add other features.  I think we'll see something this week.

I had trouble playing perbcasts... I'd click on them in my internet explorer browser and i'd get a page can not be displayed... but then i figured out.  Go into media center and select the podcast folder on the nav.  then click the perbcast.com link inside of the jriver window.  then when i click on the feed i'm looking for it works.

Is this the way the perb cast is supposed to work?  Why wouldnt it work out side of jrmc?

Either way,  if any one is interested in my photos from my latest trip to tokyo check out the japan pebcast by eatmorepossum.

Thanks,
Chris

Make sure the PodCast file type is associated with Media Center...

Ok, I should know this but dont.

I know how to associate a file extention (.html, .exe, .avi) with a program in windows (go to file explorer window, tools, folder options, file types).  but how do i associate a file prefix?  http:// vs pcast://

Thanks,
Chris

Use MC's Tools->Options for file associations  and just check the Podcast category.

also, did the 'broadcast' option not used to be present in the right click options even if the server was not running, and clicking on it would then start the server?
with build 183, I'm only seeing the broadcast option if the server has been previously started.

Sorry, Marko.  The options got pulled out of the builds.  They'll appear again in 12.
