Can MC 11 convert movies?

For example, Avi to MPG, .mov to mpg, .avi to .wmv, etc?

Not yet.  There are a lot of choices.  Videora is OK.  ffmpeg is free.

Encoding & Conversion
Wider support of formats (ratDVD, MPEG4 ASP/AVC come to mind) & ability to make use of embedded features (chapters, audio tracks etc) within a video file
Proper support of DVD files on the hard drive (and maybe an IMDB lookup)

And maybe also (less important to me tho):
Basic cutting/splicing of videos + addition of audio tracks, transitions, video effects etc (similar to windows movie maker functionality I guess)
Ability to control zoom when playing video (ala zoom player)

Super simple dvd ripping 

An idea I had recently is a database of good settings for dvd rips, with individual settings for each dvd. The settings are user submitted, possibly user rated, but the point is that different dvds need very different ripping settings, (e.g. you'd probably need very different settings for south park compared to the matrix), and most people don't know how to do this. So you insert a dvd, click 'rip', it looks it up on the database, automagically gets good settings for ripping, and then rips it. DVD ripping would become so much less frustrating, because you'd be more-or-less guaranteed to get a very good rip first time every time.

I'm sure it'd be a huge project, but it could be amazing...
