Reboot and Geforce problems
« on: May 28, 2006, 04:50:54 pm »

I also had to reboot. All of my MC settings were gone. This is not the first time and is something that occasionally happens when getting fresh builds but a warning would have been nice. I'm not complicated so my personal settings are not hard to recreate. The most time-consuming will be rebuilding my list of things to NOT import.
The thing that concerns me is that G-force no longer runs in Media Center. All works well except when G-force starts, MC goes out like a light. I tried uninstalling this build and going back to the previous build that used to work with G-force but no worky.
I'll try going back to a previous restore point to see if that works.

A clue: I tried to uninstall / reinstall G-force and got an error message related to Windows Media Player. Something about the g-force DLL being in use and not being able to overwrite. WMP was not running.

The reboot (one time only) is normal.  It fixes a Windows Media problem.  Losing settings is not normal unless you uninstalled first and removed the registry settings.

Are you using the latest version of Geforce?

Yes. That's really what disturbs me. I just paid for another year.
It's not the version. That worked fine before 185.
I suppose this means I'm the only one reporting a problem.

I didn't but have since. On further thought, let's discount that problem. I didn't discover lost settings until after I had uninstalled.

I forgot this last time:

I can't help but wonder that it's a Windows Media problem. In the past, an update installation from Media Center didn't require a restart unless WM was involved and the error message was WM related. Coincidence?

What the heck are you doing working on Sunday? That's what comes from being the Head Cheese: no time off.

I was away this week so I'm trying to get tuned in again.

Geforce has a forum.  Maybe reporting the problem there might help.

I don't know is the real answer.

How's the wren in the truck?  Mine are back in the garden here.

I posted in GForce Forum a couple of days ago. No response other than a guy telling me his worked just fine.
Nice to know but not too helpful.

Did you try a more recent download of Geforce?  On at least one occasion, the download was changed without changing the version number.

For the last few builds (somewhere around 183(?)) MC will inexplicably crash. I still don't know why, however, on two occasions I've uninstalled (not registry entries) and reinstalled. On every occasion, I've had to reinstall G-Force to get it to work.

Yes I did.

I've reinstalled a half dozen times. It acts like it about to work but then "Zap!"
MC is gone. I get about 5 seconds.

Nice to know but not too helpful...

Here is another "not too helpful" one. Just installed 185 over 182 and G-Force (Platinum) 3.1.2 still works fine. Without buying it for another year so far (I will).
