Audio from video won't play on correct device!
« on: May 30, 2006, 12:26:44 pm »

For some reason I can't get the audio from video files to play on the correct sound card. I've set the output to my internal sound card, which is hooked up to my TV, and when playing mp3's the sound appears in my TV's speakers as it should, but any video I try output the sound to my PC speakers.

So, when playing video in Media Center, the audio renderer is always the default device, even though I've set it to the secondary.

Can someone please help me, this is starting to annoy me!

Can someone please confirm this (or not), so I at least know if it's my setup or the Media Center application?

This is a limitation of MC 11 or earlier versions. Audio from video can only be played on default output device.

This will change in MC version 12.

Ok. Too bad, since I really can't use MC with my setup then.  :-\ Unless someone has an idea for a workaround?

Same thing happens when I play mp4/aac files! This makes MC impossible to enable multi-zone if you have any mp4/aac files!

PLEASE FIX THIS ASAP!!!!!

Are the mp4/aac pure audio files? If they are then there is a solution. You must play these files using DirectShow. In order to do that you must install some DirectShow filters.

Please search this forum for "FFDShow" and "MP4", there is a very recent thread that contain some links.

EDIT: I found the thread:

Kinda helped, now only my DRMed M4P files will not play out the non-default sound device. The M4A that I burned in iTunes are working fine out a directsound device and the M4Ps play out the system default device.

m4p (and DRM'ed files in general, with exception of Windows Media) can not be played in DirectShow. M4p can only be played in QuickTime engine. We have no control over which audio device the output goes to.
