Hi!

A while ago, I pointed out that a Media Server icon was resided in my Start list of commonly used programs. I never got it to disappear, so I try again.

In the above list, Media Server (C:\WINDOWS\system32\MC11.exe /MediaServer) appears. I remove it (Remove from this list), but after a while, it climbs right back.

I've looked within MC if it was started there by some obscure option, in the startup folder, including the registry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and with msconfig but i haven't found anything.

Please help...it's annoying!

That's a Windows problem, not an MC problem, but try checking for all users.

Windows / Start / Open All Users / ...

I did, but unfortunately, it's all empty

After several reboots, I found out two things:
1. In WinXPs Prefetch, resides a link to MC11.exe...I deleted this thinking it could be the problem
2. MC11.exe definitely starts at boot (since the annoying icon rose in position for each startup), not with MC itself.

Any tips? Please? Pretty?

Are you running something that loads Media Server as a service?

You've not used any software to try and start it up as a service have you? (like firedaemon etc.)

You've checked that it's not in the "Startup" folder?

Check C:\Documents and Settings\<YourUsername>\Start Menu\Programs\Startup AND C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

You've checked that it's not in the registry?

Fire up Start Menu / Run / regedit, and check:

• HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Maybe try this (freeware) software. It may tell you where the pesky shortcut is hiding...

Ok, so far I've checked whe whole registry (using Find...'MC11.exe') and nothing, the two Run directories were clean and the rest of the registry didn't have MC11.exe /Mediaserver anywhere.

The two startup folders were also empty (I don't like having alot of programs starting at boot )

I've also browsed through the services in Control Panel > Administrative tools > Services without any sign of any JRiver related stuff. Nothing in the Task Manager neither.

Jim, you said that perhaps there was something loading MC11 as a service? What could it be?
