I just noticed that MC has made many duplicate jmd files in the library folder. The extra files have (1), (2), (3) etc appended in the filenames. Obviously something strange happened about a month ago. The current library backup zips are over twice the size they used to be.

Here is a list of the files.

I suppose I can safely delete the extra files, but what could have caused this?

This could happen if somehow your library folder didn't have delete permissions.

When MC writes a data file, it writes a new file, then renames the original file, then gives the new file the original filename.

If everything went according to plan, the original file is then deleted.  It has a (1).jmd type name at this point.

That whole mess above ensures that an error or machine crash won't ever cause a library problem.

It's safe to remove those "extra" files by hand.

Thanks for the explanation. It seems that MC has not been able to delete the files during a certain fifteen minute period. The files are on the C: drive and the logged user is always an administrator on this PC. The folder is shared, but it has no user or access restrictions. Rather strange...

There are a couple of current playlist duplicates with a different date. Those are probably caused by a crash.

Those aren't duplicates -- they're probably playlists for different zones.

The PC has two zones.

I'll delete the excess files and monitor the situation. Thanks.
