Volume Leveler for optical SP-DIF??

Has anyone run across a volume leveler that will run with an optical SP-DIF connection??

Yah, I know, SP-DIF is supposed to be 'volume-independant'.  But with the tendancy of Incompetent Comcast head-end 'engineers' to run multiple levels of expand/compress/expand for the audio on their 'spotlight' commercials, I've got to do something about the loud blast of audio from local-only commercials.

My mute buttons are getting worn out........
