bug : analyzing m4a
« on: October 17, 2006, 05:12:59 pm »

MC locks up when I try to analyze a group of m4a files at once.  It gets through the first few just fine, and says it saves tag changes after each one is done, but then the entire program stops responding, and when I reboot, no tag changes have been saved.  If i do them one at a time, it's fine.

Which build are you using?

Thanks for reporting this.

Do all of the files play OK in MC?

Yep - Since they're m4a files though, I had to download the mp4 splitter and coreaac codec to be able to play them natively and analyze them.  I'm guess this might have something to do with it, but I'm not sure how.

If they're Audible files, MC should play them without any other help.

Are they protected files?

Nope - just standard m4a files from the iTunes ripper - no protection or anything.

Sorry.  I'm starting to lose it.  Apple's version of AAC?

m4a, m4p, mp3, mp4, mpg, mpeg, ....

Audible's are .aa.

For AAC, I believe we use Apple's Quicktime engine and the QT decoder.  Is QT installed and current?

The mentioned codecs make the files to play through DirectShow instead of QT. If the files are played through QT it is not possible to analyze them or use any DSP adjustments like Internal Volume, EQ etc.

For some reason your codec combination is unstable with MC12. Have you tried the same with MC11.1?

I have analyzed m4a AAC files without problems with MC11.1, but I have not tried that with MC12. I use Haali Media splitter and ffdshow for AAC decoding.

Ok - I'll try it with MC 11.1 when I get a chance.  I also thought it might be a bad codec problem at first as well, but was surprised since they analyze just fine if I do it one at a time.
