OT: Photoshop oddity!
« on: October 18, 2006, 04:53:02 pm »

I'm currently working through my films from Africa.
In total I've got aprox 500 digital photos,
and 500 film shots scanned in.

I've been using Photoshop to edit the film shots,
make sure they're straight, crop etc.

All of the photos are in my Media Center Library.
This afternoon I clicked on one of the files in Media
Center that I had been working on lastnight.
I was somewhat shocked to see the artist field as
"Only the Best :-))"

With a bit more searching I worked out that there were many files like this,
and I quickly realised that they're all files which have been edited by photoshop.

I then done a test, taking a digital file, editing it in photoshop, and reimporting
it into Media Center....
The artist field remained blank.

I then done the same with one of the Film shots, and immediatley
the artist field popped up as "Only the Best :-))"
The film shots prior to being edited have a blank artist...

Anyone else ever seen this?! Using Photoshop 7.0
A quick internet search reveals nothing!

That is strange indeed. How were the film shots scanned in? Did you do them yourself or have them done by a third party? Are you converting formats after the editing? What are the file types of the images you're working with?

The films were scanned by a professional lab.
Formats are staying as JPG.

iptc tags?

iptc "Byline" maps to MC's [artist] field. (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=34686.msg236580#msg236580)

do you have a 3rd party image viewer that shows the entire exif/iptc tag contents? acdsee, exifer, or the like?

My bet is that the lab did it at scanning time. Probably some system that's preconfigured to add that tag. They may or may not even be aware of it.

I thought you were from the UK? These two sentences make you sound like you're from the Southern US. ;)

Considering how often us Americans have to hear the Brits complain about how we've destroyed the English language, it's nice to get a jab back in now and then. :D

Thank goodness there's someone on the Forum with a degree in English, perfect for a situation like this and virtually nothing else.  I hereby vow my unstinting (thankyou Marko) efforts in support of gude grahmur.
