New handheld photo in MC 12
« on: November 09, 2006, 08:41:01 pm »

I have a gigabeat S 60.  I put MC12 on two different windows xp computers and plugged in my gigabeat.  On the first pc, the photo of my gigabeat showed up as a gigabeat F 60 and the album art would not load (the F 60 does not have album art).  On the second pc, the photo of my gigabeat was an S 60 and the album art loaded correctly.  How do I get the first pc to recognize my player correctly?

I have already tried the following to no avail.

1.  I uninstalled MC 11 & 12 completely including going into the registry and removing all traces of each.
2.  I unstalled my gigabeat driver from the device manager.
3.  I rolled back window media player from WMP 11 back to WMP 10.

I have heard from another user that this happened to him and he had to reformat his pc before it would work.  Any other ideas?

On the machine with the problem, make sure you have the latest MC 12 (from the top of this board) installed.

Also, are both machines running XP?  Is there any other difference you can think of between them?

Thanks.

I installed the latest and greatest MC 12 and I still have the problem.  I just can't understand whey the photo of the gigabeat would be different from one machine to the other.  How does MC determine which MP3 player photo to download?

gitcheye,

Can you turn on handheld logging and send me the log? To do this go to Logging in the Help menu, tick log to a file, tick only handheld events, shutdown MC 12, restart MC 12, wait for the devices to be recognized, go back to the Logging dialog and email me (rick at jriver) the log.

Thanks,
Rick

Rick with J River gave me this tip that worked to get MC 12 to discover the Gigabeat S instead of the Gigabeat F.

1) From the Help menu, run Check for updates. (This will tell you no updates are available but it will update your handheld device database.)

2)Restart MC

3) Go to Tools > Options > Handheld Options and run 'Redetect All Devices'

I still can't see the album art on my gigabeat S but it is progress!
