Renaming DVD files from properties
« on: November 15, 2006, 01:01:11 pm »

I downloaded version 12 and the DVD playback from Video_TS folders functionality is very encouraging.

I have 100's of video_ts folders that have been waiting to be organized and cataloged in MC, so this is good news.

I'm curious about tagging and renaming. All of the DVD's import with the name VIDEO_TS, which I understand.

What I want to do is edit the tags in MC (Artist/Album is what I'd like to use), then use the "rename files from properties" feature to create a directory structure that could them be imported (and then tagged by filename) by other instances of MC on the network (all my files are on a shared network drive).

For instance, if a DVD is Rush - Exit stage left, I'd like to set Artist to Rush, Album to Exit Stage Left, and then "rename files from properties" and end up with a folder that is:

Rush\Exit Stage Left\Video_TS\etc....

This works very well with individual music files.

I tried this with DVD data and the "filename" property in MC is changed, but no underlying files appear to be moved or renamed like I am used to seeing with music files.

Anyone tried something like this successfully?

Thanks,
 Graham

Rename DVDs from tag properties does not work. I manually name the Video_TS folder before importing into MC.

Have you experienced problem of library update reporting that  DVD files have changed when they haven't? This is the last bug in MC12 that is preventing me from leaving MC11 behind.

We have.  Not DVD files per-say, but MPEG-2 files (so basically the same thing).  Hmmmm....

Thanks.

Is the "rename from properties" feature not working with DVDs something that is on the list of things to fix?

bump

MC12.0.130 import still reports DVD's have changed when they haven't.

Lots could be improved in MC's support of online DVD's (such as "Fill Properties from Filename" and "Rename Files from Properties") however I would be satisifed if MC12 just behaved the same as MC11 and did not report that DVD's have changed when they haven't.

Could we please have a statement from JRiver on whether this will eventually be fixed in MC12?

If it won't be fixed, I can live with the decision, however I will stop using MC to manage my DVD media.

Thanks, Rob

We'll fix it.  Keep on bringing it up until it is.  Sorry for the problem.

Based on this release note I expected above problem to be fixed.

Quote
13. Fixed: MC saved wrong file size to database for very large files, causing it to re-import the files repeatedly on ground of "external file size change".

Sorry to report that MC 12.1.147 still says all my DVDs have changed when I run import.
