UPNP server behaviour
« on: November 15, 2006, 01:57:14 pm »

Hi,

2 questions concerning the UPNP server:

  • isn't it possible to define the "friendly name" parameter for the UPNP service? It wold be nice to be able to do that via the UPNP service property page.
  • are there any plans to let the UPNP server run as a process? So I could use my clients without having MC running

Thanks

There's no way to change the friendly name, I'll add that in the future.

Check out "Media Server" mode for running the sharing servers. The UPnP server uses a LOT of Media Center, it's not just serving out files. Media Server mode will run Media Center, but only those pieces needed to serve out content, none of the rest.

Is it possible for the Media Server to be run as a Windows Service associated with the system account?

Thanks

search the forum for Firedaemon (or maybe just daemon). There's a tool that does this.
