Clarification: Read-only DB means also no file tagging?
« on: November 20, 2006, 04:31:06 pm »

Dear all,

I am playing a little bit with the new "shared library" function. I have my library on a network share and also all musik on a network share. I am starting MC12 on my first pc and afterwards also on my second PC.

As expected the second PC gets "read-only" rights for the library. But now I am changing the rating on 2nd PC. Locally he displays the new rating, but is not writing it into the library (as expected). But it seems that 2nd PC is also not writing the new rating directly into the mp3-tags of the file. Otto (running on my 1st pc) is not updating the library on 1st pc and also after a manual auto-import the rating of the file is the same than before.

I was expecting, that 2nd pc is changing the rating inside the file -> otto is changing the rating in the library with full access -> 2nd pc will get the new rating after the library update.

This is by design.  Read-only access also disables tag writing.

loosely related to this topic is my question,
Is there any way to have tagging ONLY on files that have not yet been imported?

This would allow you to tag & rename files in preparation for importing, yet once the files have been imported I'd then like the tags to be protected as no further changes should be necessary (per my settings for which tags are saved within the files). Is there any way for this to be done?

Hi Matt,

thanks... Do you see a chance to make this as an option in a future build of MC12?
