ipod support questions
« on: December 05, 2006, 05:38:01 am »

Hi all

thinking about going with v 12, some questions about ipod support

1) is there video podcast support?

2) do we have the ability to edit metadata on video files so we can classify if a video is a music video or a movie?

thanks!

Yes and yes. To edit the video sub type edit the Media Subtype field.

On this note though, video files tagged in the Media Subtype field re-Sync every time... its a bug I have reported and I hope it's being looked into! ;)

Does the iPod understand the "sub-type" field?  I thought that the iPod simply offered all videos under it's "video" category.

Thanks,

Larry

iPod definately understands the subtype field...

I have several music videos that I tagged as such in the subtype field and they now appear under Music videos on my iPod. Unfortunately they now re-sync every time. Removing the subtype they do not resync...  ?

Shouldn't do... mine are all tagged as Ipod Video

Have you made sure that you deleted them from the device so they are forced to re-sync?

I'm also having re-sync problems. Around 800 files of the 5000 file on my ipod get re-synced evey time even though they ahve not changed at all. I don't have a full analysis yet but it seems to always be the same files.

I'm having that problem too, and I think I know what's causing it for me.  When I'm tagging audio files, if the group's name starts with the word "The" I move it to the end (e.g. "The Beatles" becomes "Beatles, The").  I've noticed that my iPod always sorts and displays them in their original form ("The Beatles"), which surprised and annoyed me a little but didn't cause any real trouble with MC11.

But MC12 seems to be confused by this, because it wants to re-download all of those files every time I do a sync.  And if I let it, they end up duplicated on my iPod, so that after a few syncs its hard drive fills up.

The only workaround I've found is to initialize my iPod before every sync, forcing MC to spend hours downloading everything again (but only once!).

I also ran into the "The" problem on 4GB 2nd gen nano. Thank you for explaining what is going on. I think this should be fixed in MC12.
