Feature Request: AVI Tagging
« on: January 03, 2007, 04:05:03 am »

I know this is a bit of a nag, and I'm sorry for that, but I would really like this functionality in v12

Could we please get MC12 to tag AVI files.

As a matter of course, I always try to use a containers internal tags for storing as much info as possible and of course I can use MC for most of my preferred formats, but not AVIs.

I posted an AVI tag utility in http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=36807.0 but I thought I'd bring it out in its own request post in case JR missed it ;)

ABCavi tag editor (http://abcavi.tk/) has source code and is licensed under GPL.

I admit to being naive about licensing etc, as well as to implications involved in the implementation into MC, but here's hoping its a reasonable request...

If this is do-able, I'm definitely for it. So sick of losing tags on reimport :(

Sadly the only way JR could use GPL is if they were to GPL MC and start giving it away free, which is unprobable.

However infact reading their site, it says that since version 2.0
it actually uses the LGPL license.  That makes things a lot more probable.
On top of this they include a DLL file for making life easier.

MUCH needed since MC needs to be able to live up to the claims of being able to support all/popular media formats, and not just playback. Who wants to lose all those tags, over & over.

At least the ability to add tags based on folder and/or filename would be a start.... (This way we could set rules in OTTO and have MC12 auto add basic tags)

I store movies in separate folders in my Movie partition. And recorded tv in my TV drive with subfolders for every season.

I have set up a basic viewscheme for my Star Trek drive and done some basic taging by hand (serie, season, year, episode(name and number)), and its a joy to navigate from within MC.

Without at least some sort of autotagging the OTTO feature is pretty useless for video.

Just thinking about any options ...

Does the MC plugin architecture allow plugins for the purposes of tagging?

Could *someone* (not me :'()  write a plugin to pass data between MC and the ABCavi dll for the purposes of tagging?
