MC 12 Woes (TV scanning and Media Scheduler)
« on: January 14, 2007, 01:29:58 pm »

I downloaded the Beta version 12. of MC.
I found the following problems:

I Can't use my MC 11 license, program wants me to buy new one!
(since I could never get ver 11.1.201 to work as I wanted I hoped V12 would be better)

I have a ATI HDTV All-In-Wonder card, and it took an hour to scan for just 7 of 68 possible stations, taking over 5 minutes per channel. Don't know if it would ever find any OTA stations since I aborted the scan.
V11 did the whole scan in less than 5 minutes.

There is NO Media Scheduler in the new download.
(since the scheduler in V 11 is impossable to use on a touchscreen, I was (erroniously) told that v 12 would have an improved scheduler.)

I understand this is a BETA version, will these problems be fixed? ?

BTW: could not find the MC 12 Forum! :(

Is it the full moon?  Strange problems today.

Try a reboot on the TV problem.  Uninstalling MC11 shouldn't be needed.  Maybe some other program has a tight grip on the TV card.

Media Scheduler is now part of the main program.

I'll move your post.

So, Will my MC 11 license work? I've got less then 4 tries left, and don't want to use them all up.

Update: I Still can't find out how to schedule a TV recording.

FROM MC V12 Help:

Quote
Record Using Media Scheduler

Before using Media Scheduler, you should first setup a test.  Start with a small recording session (3 minutes, for example).  In addition, you should realize that recording takes up a lot of drive space (about 60GB/hour uncompressed and up to about 4GB/hour compressed for some TV devices).

To schedule a recording
1.  Open Media Scheduler (Start > Program Files (or All Programs) > JRiver Media Center 11 > Media Scheduler).
2.   Double click on the Media Scheduler icon in the taskbar.

3.   Click on Add One-Time Task (or Add Periodic Task to schedule a recurring event).

4.   In the Action drop-down menu, select Start TV Recording.

5.   Provide Start and Stop dates and times.

6.   Select a channel to record in the Recording Source drop-down list.

7.   Set the output path.  Click the browse button and select the drive and folder (preferably the default video folder already created by Media Center which is the Video folder on the drive with the most free space).  Name the file, and give it an extension (e.g., .avi or .wmv). The recording will be done in the format of the file extension you chose, regardless of which recording profile you have chosen. If you record in AVI, make sure you have configured your system accordingly.

8.   You may close Media Scheduler (it will stay open in the task bar).

and I still can't find out how to schedule a TV recording, can it be done?
(If the answer is no to these two questions then I don't see a need to upgrade/buy a new license. The main reason I use MC for for music and TV recording.)

Version 11 license will work only if it was purchased recently with a recent version of MC11.

About scheduler:

Click "Services & Plugins". Schduler is the first item.
