« on: February 13, 2007, 03:29:04 pm »

A not really wise freind put me some of his cds on cdr.
But in apple lossless
The funny thing is that he used itune to do it - Means a lossless format in non secure rip...

Anyway , now i'am at the gate of Ze MC Empire with this f cdrs and i ask :
How can convert it ? In any format WAV-FLAC-APE , even WMA lossless
If not possible in MC , any free prog NOT itune ?
My goal is to convert it , cannot stand to have anything apple on my computer

Use iTunes, convert the lossless back into WAV.
Remove iTunes, then use MC to convert WAV to APE or FLAC.

Not sure thats a good idea, you'll loose the tags...
Conversions not my speciality though, so I've not got a better idea...

MC can convert AAC m4a files if suitable DirectShow filters are installed. However, this does not help with ALAC m4a files (Apple Lossless). ALAC can be played (but not converted) only if Apple's own codec is installed on the system (iTunes or at least Quicktime).

For example, for ALAC -> APE conversion you can use:

- foobar2000 with its APE and ALAC plugins and the Monkey's Audio encoder (these are free). The tags are preserved.

http://www.foobar2000.org/components/foo_input_monkey.zip
http://www.foobar2000.org/components/foo_input_alac.zip
http://www.monkeysaudio.com/files/MAC_399F.exe

or

- dBpoweramp Music Converter and the APE and ALAC codec packs for it (the free version is enough for this conversion). The tags are preserved. This can be found easily with Google.

Thanks
I'am a foobar user - even if still using 8 most of the time .

Did convertion to WAV [with 9 ]
But getting few WAV corrupted
Look like the apple files are corrupted.

I have registered dBpoweramp since years , but forgot about checking it for apple lossless.

Anyway , no way in MC and will tell him to re-rip it to FLAC with EAC .
No way i can accept any apple format and my few thousands CDs collection is a good argument to get what I want ..........

And , yes , i must spend time to set EAC on his computer ... but worth it
So far i do not think there is a free with restrictions  MC or MJ  version i can tell him to install.
MJ 7 was like it , but no secure rip .
