I upgraded (clean install) to Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit the other day. Reinstalled MC12.0.189. Everything seemed to be fine, but today I tried starting the TiVo server and got this:

I don't have TiVo desktop installed and, as far as I know, no other program is running that would be using TiVo Beacon. Any ideas?

The TiVo Server started up fine here, so it's not a security issue (my first thought).

Could you reboot XP and then start MC and the TiVo Server, see if it still happens? If it does, let me know and we'll go to the next step.

I rebooted Vista and the same thing happened, but then I tried right-clicking on the icon and choosing "Run as Administrator" and it prompted me to reboot again and TiVo server worked fine after that.

I really don't understand this Run as Administrator stuff... since I am the only user of this PC I already have an administrator account. Guess I need to do some reading up on it.

Thanks Mesue - I'm not an expert on Vista Security, but I think it's an additional layer to prevent trojans from having too much authority. You have to be an admin and also say "I know this program is clean" before it gets the extra privileges.
