A friend recommended that I give the program a try, so I downloaded it 4 days ago, and no matter what I've done over the last 4 days I just can't get it to work on my server no matter what I do.
The server I have here at home is running Windows 2003 Server Standard. It's what I use to download all my videos too. My friend is using Windows 2003 SBS edition.
I tried to follow all the directions I found in the Wiki and any I could find using the search features on this board, but no matter what I try, I keep failing to get it to work.
Here's what I'm tried so far:
I chose the "Services and Plug-ins" -> "Library Server" option to start the server.
Then I go File -> Library -> Library Manager -> and point it to the directory I'm trying to test it with. I then save this and close.
I then open the client on my desktop, a Windows XP install, and then do a "Search for Library Servers" to find the server. It find the server ok it seems, and I see the videos from my test server. I even open the "Library Server" plug-in to see if I'm connection. I am confused though that it says "Received request for cover art: F:\Streaming Videos\Cartoons\Superman" but it dows show that my PC is connecting. But thats the only thing it shows as far as that windows goes.
But as soon as I click on an entry to try and video some streaming media I get this error:

Media Center encountered errors while trying to play the last several files. Please make sure that the path in your media library points to the right location.
Error details
DirectShow: Interface not registered

And that's all it does. Nothing plays. So I went to the "Disk Location" entry in the display tree on the left hand side of the screen. No go. I then went to the "Recently Imported" section and tried to view a video. It too showed me a list that looked correct, but nope I got the same error.
So under a suggestion from my friend I replaced my sound card with a new one and loaded all the codec's again. Nope still the same error. Then I mapped an Admin share to the drive and imported into the program that way. That worked and I was able to view the files, but I can't create universal Playlist for everyone if I have to do that on every PC in my house. I then changed all the security to say "Full access" on all drives for all logged in users. But that didn't work either, but the mapping of the admin share worked so I don't believe that could be the problem. And my friend didn't have to do anything other than put it on the Library service he say's to get it to show up for the client. I even had the "Media server" Icon showing in the system tray but that didn't work either.
So then I thought it must be a firewall issue, so I turned off the servers firewall. Nope that didn't work either. So I took out my laptop, loaded the MC12 program on it, and tried to connect to my desktop to see if the program would work for me at all. That worked and I could view all my videos no problem first time out. No fuss no muss and everything worked fine.
So I downloaded version 11 to see what would happen. It let me connect to my server, but after the inital picture (about 1/2 a second into the video) the screen froze and then nothing happened. I could see the video start to play, but it never got very far. But I did see it start. That was further than I was getting with MC12. The only problem was that it crashed a lot so I went back to trying MC12
So I'm at a loss here. I have no Idea why my Server won't work correctly with MC 12 and serve up video's like my desktop does with no problems or headaches.
Can someone please shed some light on what I need to do to get this to work? I'd like to try and get it working before my 30 day trial is over if I could
