Problem with Library Server
« on: March 20, 2007, 04:23:30 pm »

Ok, I'm new to MC, so be gentle.   ;)

I have two computers on my network.  I have a computer running XP Pro.  My wife's computer runs XP Home.  I want to set up the server on my wife's computer.  I set it up there and start Library Server on port 80.  I am able to connect to it from my computer and browse the library.  When I try to play a music file, tho, nothing happens, eventually erroring out.

When I go to my wife's computer, I see a bunch of dialog boxes that say that an error happened (hundreds according to the count in the explorer bar.)  No details about the nature of the error.  I close one box, and the whole application shuts down.

Now, if I start the server on my computer and connect to it from my wife's computer, it seems to work just fine.

So, what is going on here?

Welcome.

First, make sure that the files play on your wife's computer (take Library Server out of the picture).

If they do, then something else is going on. Can you post the filename (not the track name, but the
filename including the path) of a file that doesn't play here?

Thanks,

j

All the files play fine on my wife's computer, but I can't get any of them to play on mine (from the server on her computer)

The filename path from my computer is "m01p://192.168.1.6:80/D:\My Music\Andromeda\Chimera\Andromeda - Periscope.flac"

Do you have the FLAC decoder plugin installed on yours?

Yes, it is installed on mine.  I actually have a copy of the same files on both machines currently, and both play FLAC just fine.

Switch to a different port, see if that helps.

If not, copy-and-paste a filename into your browser - change m01p to http, and see what happens.

Nope, same result.

It crashes the MC server in the same way.

Are you using conversion?

If so, try turning it off.

If not, turn on debug logging, making sure that "Sharing Plugins" is selected in the log types, and post the last few lines of the log here.

I seem to have resolved the whole thing by reinstalling MC on my wife's PC.  Things seem to be working now.
