Runtime error 216 at 00002BF4
« on: April 21, 2007, 12:29:22 pm »

I'm using MC 12.0.207.

When open, it appears as if I get a runtime error every 30 seconds or so.  I tried uninstalling/reinstalling, and it went away for a little bit, but then came back again.  It says:

Runtime error 216 at 00002BF4

Thanks for any help,

Robbie G

Thanks for the reply.

I don't think it is a virus/trojan infection.  I followed the removal steps, and I don't seem to have any of the files/registry entries it tells me to change/delete.  Plus, I have avast anti-virus running.

I'm not sure, but it seems as if the error is in conjunction w/ J River updating the thumbnails?

Mmm I also get the same - Multiple Windows error dialog boxs "Runtime Error 216 - E00002BF4" appearing on Vista32Bit error but only when I am in Theater View.  Virus scan did not pick up anything.

Do you know what MC is doing when you get the error?

Does it matter what view you're looking at? (videos vs start, etc.)

Does it bring down the program, or does the application keep running?

If the program keeps running, it's possible that a bad DirectShow filter is getting loaded for import / thumbnailing.

The first time I saw the error was when I was playing some audio files.  But since then, I uninstalled & reinstalled, and it appears to only show up now when it is updating the thumbnails (eg. - after I run auto import).  I believe it also happened after I canceled the updating thumbnails and went to the library view (maybe because it was updating the thumbnails there as I was looking at the files?)

The application continues to run, and the error windows is replaced with a new error window, every 15-30 seconds that says the exact same thing.

I have vista codec pack installed.  Would this be the source of the bad direct show filter?  Or does J River use its own?

I only get it when in Theater View and then only in a diaglogue box...cross post from Beta Forum...it appears that when selecting an option on Theater View MC Diag boxs nothing happens.  You can still move up and down the list selecting buttons but that is all.  However.... if you minimise then maximise MC the Diag Box is gone and the selection has been made.  Still getting the "Runtime Error 216 - E00002BF4" popup

Mine is now fixed and was caused by an incorrect DirectShow filter selection I had made on this PC that was causing this error to pop up during the background Video Thumbnailing.  FYI - MPG I'd selected "File Source (Async.)" (what ever that one is) by mistake not my usual "Nero File Source (Async.)".
Thanks
