Video file thumbs. Am I doing something wrong?
« on: May 03, 2007, 07:09:31 am »

Hi,

I've looked around for some info as to what might be wrong, but I cant find anything that seems to help, or I'm misreading... so apologies if this info is already out there...

Every time I go to a view full of files, MC goes nuts in the background generating images of all the files. I expected these images to be saved, but this does not seem t be happening. I have my images being stored in y:\allmedia\images (a dedicated MC library share), as well as in tags (where relevant).

I also build thumbs on Import.

Seems to indicate that the auto-generated thumbs should be saved, but I am not seeing this.

This sounds similar...

I erase thumbnails on exit, only for orphans.

"Use screen grab for file works" perfectly, but puts the file in c:\....\Media Center 12\Data\Screengrabs

I'm sure this should be all working....

Same problem here, I have posted in the release thread.
This is a new introduction with build 122.

A recent build requires all thumbnails to be regenerated.

When all is done, it should not be doing that again.

Nah, this is different  ;)
I've definetely passed the build where this happens, & I believe the OP has too.
Anyway, there is no way that any sort of thumbnailing should go as nuts as his happening to me (3-5 mins 100% CPU), with nothing to show for it.

Have you selected appropriate video decoders for your various types of video?

I assume so, as I can view them, and the thumbnailing-on-the-fly works fine.

I am trying a thumbnail rebuild at the moment, however so far (and I haven't hit the videos yet) there are no new files appearing in my specified thumbnails directory.

I will give it a while, then try a local path to see if that helps.

OK... As it turns out I am confusing cover art and thumbnails (boy, do I feel stupid :-[), which I now realise are two different and distinct things. This explains why I am not seeing the specified CoverArt directory being populated.

I cannot effectively check the thumbnails are sticking at this point (at work), although they seem to be.

Alternatively, can they be used as 'coverart' as well? ... as an option maybe? This would allow easier sharing of images across machines... ( I could let my server do all the work). Mind you, upon recollection, I believe this has been mentioned in these forums before. *Grabs rifle and safari suit and goes hunting*

Am I still missing something? ... probably  ;D

I will provide feedback as to the current state of affairs later...
