Upgraded to MC 12: Library Server stopped working
« on: May 08, 2007, 03:15:10 am »

Hello,

I just upgraded from the previous 11.1 version and struggle now with the Library server. In 11.1 everything worked fine: 1 server and up to 3 clients playing mp3s and apes. Now with 12.0.222 when trying to play a song on the client (mp3 or ape, tried both), the server goes to 100% CPU and Media Center freezes. I tried this with 2 different clients, both with Version 12.0.222. Has anybody seen a similar behavior? I guess it must be something very basic that I do wrong.

Something unrelated: When connected through a Remote Desktop connection, going into Theater View crashes MC (not really that important).

Thanks,
Horst

Are you using conversion? (Check on the client).

What does the server status page show?

Hi,

conversion is turned off on the clients. I did some further experiments and now discovered that the server even hangs without the client requesting actuals files for playback. What I did is as follows:
- Start MC on server
- Start MC on Client
- Search for a library server:
Client finds the server and downloads the library
- I do some navigation on the client (not even playing stuff, switching view schemes)
- After a while (about 20-30 seconds) MC on the server hangs

I turned off the windows FW on both systems during the experiment.
My system info is as follows:
Media Center Registered 12.0.222 -- C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center 12\

Microsoft Windows XP  Workstation 5.1 Service Pack 2 (Build 2600)
AMD Athlon 1346 MHz MMX / Memory: Total - 523 MB, Free - 240 MB

Last thing I saw in the library server window was:

I turned on debuging and the last few lines in the log are:

Try this: as soon as the client gets the library, turn off library server on the server. Does it still hang?

Hi,

I stopped the library server after the client downloaded the library and the sever keeps working (but of course I can't do any meaningful on the client while the server is stopped). I did some additional tests and for me it looks like it has something to do with requests for coverart. I initially imported my MC 11.1 library (about 100k files in the lib) into MC 12 and that might be part of the problem. I created a new library and imported some files (about 500) into the library and with this it seems to work fine. And there is a difference in the tagging information when I compare files in the converted lib vs the imported version: Some mp3 show instead 192 kbps - CBR (MPEG-1 Layer 3) something like 192 kbps - unknown compression (Format field). So it might be a problem with  the initial import of the MC 11.1 database?

Thanks,
Horst

Can you turn on all debug logging, make it hang, and e-mail me the log?

Thanks,
