tivo streaming problems reappear....
« on: May 10, 2007, 03:40:58 am »

I had this problem a while back with an earlier version...it was fixed with a later edition, but it seems to have returned with 12.222. Trying to hear mp3 audio or view jpeg photos via tivo produces errors on tivo screen and tivo server log. MC freezes and needs to be shut down by task mgr. I've reviewed older posts about this and the errors are the same as before....and I've tried all variations of conversion settings. I'm curious if anyone else is having problems with this.
Thanks,

I haven't changed anything recently. Did your TiVo update it's software maybe?

Well....yes, there was an automatic tivo update recently. I'll check into that possibility, but I'd expect others to have similar problems if it was the cause. I'll check deeper into my system also to see if anything's changed.
Thanks

What version of the software did it update to? I'll check ours to see if it is the same version...

more detail may help......When I play an mp3 via tivo, the first title will play, but only after several "bad url argument" messages appear on server log, when the 2nd title cues up, server appears to freeze. When I click "stop server", there is a several second pause and "MC needs to shut down" message appears. Clicking "shut-down" on this window closed MC (computer doesn't freeze as I previously reported).

This problem remains. I have reconfigured my router, rebooted tivo, called tivo support, called belkin (my router) support, tried new cables, cleaned up my computer (temp files, defrag, registry scan, virus and spyware scans, cookies deleted, etc etc), changed IP and MAC addresses....all to no avail. One audio (mp3) file will play and it freezes up on the next. CPU usage goes to 100% when the first title is over and everything slows waaay down. CPU is back to normal if I close tivo server. Jpegs will not display at all. If someone can tell me how to insert a screen shot of the tivo server log I will do so. Can anyone offer any help?
pleeeeze?

Something strange is going on, but it's hard to reproduce. I'll keep messing with it.

Any info you can provide would help, such as how often does it happen (I noticed once the second track failed to play and MC hung and once the second track played).

Did you mean software version 8.3-01-2-140?

The software IS version 540....I jist checked it again. It's a fairly recent upgrade from tivo. As to how often it happens.....every time I've tried it I get the first track to play and then it crashes. On the jpegs, the first one will not even play. This is very consistant. Through all my diagnostic efforts, I've tried both perhaps 15-20 times. I can't figure out how to paste an image here (can it be done?) or I'd post the MC Tivo server log. I'll type the relevant portion....

13:49:49- Starting...
13:49:49-Trying Port 8070
13:49:49-Checking TiVo Beacon Installation
13:49:49-Connecting to Beacon
13:49:49-Running on Port 8070
13:53:31-Warning: Bad URL argument (container) Details=Basic
(this entry repeats 6-7 times, for 15-20 seconds before the next entry)
13:53:50- Browsing File: D:\Music\Susana Baca-AfroBlue.mp3
13:53:54-Sharing (without conversion): D:\Music\Susana Baca-Afro Blue.mp3
  (track is now starting play)
13:56:27- Warning: Bad URL argument(container) Details=Optimal
(this appears when the next track cues up)

I haven't taken a screen shot of the log when I try to view a jpeg, but as I recall it's similar. Note that the "bad url argument" message appears several times before the first track even begins playing.....and that upon trying to play the second track, "details=Basic" changes to "details=optimal".

Before I upgraded to MC12, I had been using MC10, and had listened to literally hours of mp3's via tivo...sometimes letting it run all day, with seldom a glitch. I also was able to view slide shows consisting of 200-300 images while skipping around the menus with few crashes. After upgrading to 12, the problem began (this was before the tivo software upgrade)....and in some intermediate version of 12 it began working again albeit, not without the occasional crash. I have kept current with the MC12 upgrades, and the tivo upgrade happened maybe 3 weeks ago....so I can't pin down when and which change brought the problem back.

My connection to tivo is via ethernet cat5 cable...about 30 feet, through a Belkin router with firewall enabled. This config is as it has always been. I did try changing IP and MAC addresses on the router with no improvement. My internet cable connection (comcast) feeds the router and is in turn routed to tivo and computer. There are no other systems on the network. My mp3's reside on my D drive (internal), 200g about half full. My image files are on C drive, also 200g half full.

This is getting pretty long-winded and I can't think of anything else that might relate....let me know if I can offer anything further. And thanks, John, for your attention.

I didn't get a chance to write this afternoon: I found a problem, but I'm not sure if it was a problem I introduced today while doing some needed upgrades to the code (in hopes they'd fix your problem) or if it is the same problem you are seeing. I didn't quite get it fixed, but hopefully first thing in the morning.

From your log posted below - I'm hoping that it is a fix for yours. What I noticed is that there is a problem with the messaging system - it's not showing the "Sharing..." message for the second track.

[edit] our TiVo was upgraded sometime recently too, but only to 140...

Problem is fixed, and it's working fine for me. Should be in an upcoming build.
