Theatre View Question/Request
« on: June 05, 2007, 10:29:33 am »

Is it possible to run the Theatre view on one monitor and detach the track info screen to play on another? If not, that is something I would request. Similarly, it would be nice, in theatre view, when the track info display is detached, to have the black but empy window disappear rather than leave the 'click here to reattach' window remain.

yes you can detach the display. hit ctrl 5 when in theater view and it will detach. in the wiki you can find the mmc command to do this. since this version though (251) the detached display takes the focus also (before 251 it didnt), so when using the arrow keys on remote or keyboard Theater View wont react until you click in the screen using your mouse (changing the focus).
up until version 217 (or something like that) you could get rid of the big black empty screen by taking the pip out of the xml file, and let playing now fill out the whole screen. this feature has been taken away, and now there is no way to get rid of it.
up until now i felt fairly lonesome with my protests against these changes here and on the beta forum. IMO Theater View is not made anymore for dual monitors.  :-[

It sure is.  Simply detach the display (right click in Playing Now or in the Display View or in the little Theater View Playing Window and choose Detach Display.  Then drag that window over to the other monitor and maximize it (or size it appropriately).  That display can be set to view video or any visualization or display plugin.  It remembers its size and position (including which monitor it was on) so next time you open it, it'll go right back to where it was.

For some reason, MC annoyingly closes any open Detached Displays when you enter Theater View, so if you tend to switch in-and-out of Theater View a lot then it might not work real well for you.  However, if you just stay in Theater View (or Standard View) most of the time, it should work fine!

I also noticed (just now) that when you have a Detached Display open, it breaks the regular F11 function (which now Minimizes/Maximizes the Detached Display).  Annoying!  Any chance we could get these two things fixed?  I'd really prefer that MC not close the Detached Display EVER unless I manually tell it to.  I'd like to be able to cycle in/out of Theater View/Standard View (using F11) with the Detached Display open and untouched.

EDIT: Gappie beat me.  Good job Gappie!  ;)

Are you kidding me?!? Why would anyone do that?

Amen. That sounds like a reasonable request
