Feature Request: Ctrl-e Search
« on: June 05, 2007, 05:48:54 pm »

In lots of other applications - Firefox, IE7, Windows Vista standard browsers - pressing Ctrl-e goes to the search box in the top right...any chance MC could also do this?  I know Ctrl-f does this, but...

1) I get used to pressing Ctrl-e
2) Ctrl-f, in both Vista and MC, does a search from the root.

It would be nice for Ctrl-e to just go to the search box without changing to the root view scheme.  This would put it exactly in line with Vista's method for both e and f.

Ta :)

Try Ctrl+Q for a quick search.

I have tried this, but it doesn't seem nearly as useful as using the search box, as it only shows the first song with the search term, rather than everything, and then I quickly lose it again as it doesn't filter out everything else.

As Ctrl-e seems to have become a standard shortcut elsewhere, and doesn't appear to be being used for anything else in MC as far as I know, it just seems a logical inclusion?

You can make this happen yourself.

Make sure MC is not running.
Browse to your Media Center installation directory, the default path being: C:\Program Files\JRiver\Media Center 12\, and there you should see a folder called "Data". Double click on it to open it.

Now create a new folder called Custom Rescources.
Now download this zip file and extract its contents to this new folder.
Now start MC and you will find that Ctrl + e now works as Ctrl + f does.

This file will not be replaced by subsequent MC upgrades, and as it only contains the ctrl+e modification, you won't need to worry about missing out on future changes that may be made to the default file that contains all the other shortcut assignments.

In build 254 and later:
NEW: Ctrl+E focuses the search control without switching views.
