Support for HDHomeRun in MC12
« on: June 08, 2007, 03:25:24 pm »

I'd like to see support for the HDHomeRun network HDTV tuner added to MC12. There are quite a few of us AVSForum members that use this device. Here's a link to a pretty long thread about this product:

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=731457

And here's a link to their website: http://www.silicondust.com/ and their forums: http://www.silicondust.com/forum/

The person you should probably contact for any questions is jafa@silicondust.com

Thanks!!

Just want to give this a bit of a nudge, as it is at risk of being used as a football over at AVS.

If I understand it correctly, this device has two tuners. Currently MC still does not support using two tuners simultaneously. The two tuners would appear as two separate devices, and you could choose one to use. Supporting two tuners will require more complicated changes and therefore I can not predict when it will happen.

For now, what happens if you try to use one of its tuners in MC? Has anyone tried it?

I tried it with only one tuner and I could get some stations. Later when I have more time, I will try to see if I can get all stations working.

First, I chose the tuner that is connected to my antenna/8VSB and then clicked on digital to scan channels. It didn't seem to find any channels until I ran the HDHomeRun Config utility. When I stepped through the channels in the utility, it then found some channels, but not all. It also used different numbers than I get when using the HDHomeRun scan. This is probably because the stations don't display the correct numbers.

I'll try the tuner set to QAM, which is connected to my cable service later.

MrCorbo says that the HDHomeRun works with MC12.  Please see his post in this thread on AVSForum:

I've also had it working with the 8VSB OTA tuner. I haven't tried the QAM tuner because most of the channels from my provider (Charter) are encrypted, so it's not worth the hassle.
