MC has started crashing on opening (Runtime error)
« on: June 20, 2007, 09:47:41 am »

Hi.
Although I have found this subject by browsing this forum, I have yet to find an answer that applies 100%, so here I go:
About one week ago, the following started to appear within seconds after opening MC12: "Microsoft Visual C++Runtime Error. Runtime error. Program: C:\Program files\JRiver\MediaCenter12\MediaCenter12.exe. This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information." Any action after that will cause the program to shut down.

Last week, I somehow managed to run a library backup (can't remember if I uninstalled the prog before that), but now this has begun to re-appear. ANy ideas, please?

rgds,
Ole K

No idea.

Try uninstalling, removing the registry entries, rebooting and re-installing the latest build.

Run this to enable logging: (it's safe -- it just sets a few registry keys inside Media Center 12's HKCU folder)
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/tmp/EnableMC12Logging.reg

Then grab the log from C:\Documents and Settings\[User Name]\Application Data\J River\Media Center 12 after a crash.  Post it here.

Thanks, but: "[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JRiver\Media Center 12\Debug]" should mean that there is a "debug" folder, shouldn't it? In case, it's not there. Have I got it wrong?

The "Debug" folder is only there once you enable logging.

Thanks a lot. The log file is pretty long. Should I post it all?

Erase the log.  Launch MC.  Make sure it logs some stuff before crashing. (so you aren't looking at an old log)

If it does, post the last 100 or so lines here.

OK. Since the log was newly installed, I just ran the program once, it crashed and here are the 100 (or so) last lines of the log:

Do you have the v. 12.0.185 installed or is the text incorrect? The current version is 12.0.259.

You could also clear the library cache folder. I don't know if that would help anything, but the last item in the log is the cache (2).dat. file. You can safely delete the contents of the C:\Documents and Settings\Ole Kvaal\Programdata\J River\Media Center 12\Library\Cache\ folder.
