Long time fan of your product,

Just updated from MC 11 to newest version 12.0.251 and media server is not streaming to my TiVo.
Am running Windows XP Pro. When I go to TiVo server nothing is there. I click on start server and nothing happens. I then click on options then reset beacon and get the following:

06/24/07 17:35:01 - Checking TiVo Beacon installation
06/24/07 17:35:01 - Removing existing Beacon.
06/24/07 17:35:01 - Existing Beacon removed.
06/24/07 17:35:01 - Installing new Beacon.
06/24/07 17:35:01 - Starting new Beacon.
06/24/07 17:35:02 - Unregistering Beacon API.
06/24/07 17:35:02 - Installing new API.
06/24/07 17:35:02 - Registering the new API.
06/24/07 17:35:04 - Connecting to Beacon.

I am then asked to restart computer, after doing this there is still no music streaming to the TiVo and I am back where I started.

Please help.

When I open MC 11 start program and open the tivo server it works fine.

Latest version in the MC12 forum is 12.0.259 (6/14/07).

yes I am running with administrative privileges, and the latest available version is 12.0.251, no other version (ie 12.0.259) avaiable when I click check for update

Check for updates doesn't return the latest version from the forum, that must be downloaded manually.
But I don't think it will make much difference.

Please try the following.
Turn off the PC.
Reboot the TiVo.
Start the PC (but do not start MC11.
Start MC12.
Reset the beacon.
Try to connect from the TiVo.

Still no go I rebooted the TiVo, restarted the PC and then MC12 resent the beacon (got above messages from MC12) and rebooted the computer again as MC12 requested but same problem. The TiVo server upon rebooting the is blank again and does not appear to be active. Before rebooting as requested I check to see if TiVo picked up the server, but no go.

PS how do I download the latested version if auto update does not pick it up?

The latest version is available in the MC 12 section of Interact.

What version of the TiVo Software is running on the TiVo?

Not the desktop software, the software running on the TiVo.

Are you using TiVo's desktop software? That could confuse the issue.

The TiVo server is set to start when I log onto windows. Same settings as in MC 10 and 11. I turned it off rebooted windows and then started MC 12 and rest the beacon, restarted windows as asked per MC12 then opened it again without TiVo desktop running and there was no TiVo server running in MC 12 as before.

The TiVo desktop software is persistent about installing its own version of the beacon, and I've seen cases where that beacon does not work well with us.

Try removing the desktop software, reboot and make sure the beacon isn't running (look under Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Services), then install the Beacon from MC, and try again...

If I remove the TiVo server I might loose functionality of the TiVo. Inability to stream photos using TiVo server, and the inability to transfer movies from the TiVo to computer. I am not sure about streaming unbox movies from amazon.com. The prior version did not seem to have a conflict with the TiVo server, is there another workaround?

The TiVo desktop software is available here:
http://www.tivo.com/mytivo/domore/tivotogo/windows.html

So if it doesn't work, you can reinstall it.

OK,

I uninstalled TiVo desktop software, and disabled the TiVo beacon. The MC 12 TiVo server is up and running and I am able to see it on the TiVo. It even plays some songs, but when a song is playing and navigating back to the song / artist menus the service crashes and I get an error code #3-5-6. This happens every time. The music will however keep playing until I select OK on the TiVo.

What do you mean: "the service crashes"? Does the TiVo give an error or does Media Center give an error, or does the TiVo crash and reboot or does Media Center crash and reboot?

What format is the song that causes the error? Do you have conversion enabled?

Removed / uninstalled TiVo desktop. Upgraded MC to 12.0.279. Was able to stream audio to TiVo no problem. Reinstalled TiVo server newest version (2.4a) and it is able to stream both video and audio MP3s to TiVo. Media server however keep running into the same problem again with the following error displayed when scrolling around in the artist list This problem seems to occur at random. I am playing MP3s no conversion done, and the conversion is enabled.

error message on TiVo:
"An unexpected error occurred while accessing the server"
Error # 3-5-6

Here is what MC lists in the text window
