Theater View Skin: Obsidian Dynamite
« on: July 02, 2007, 01:28:58 pm »

Here's a simple sample skin showing how to integrate a video into a Theater View skin:
http://accessories.musicex.com/mediacenter/mc_data/plugins/temp/Obsidian%20Dynamite.mjp

Install the package, then pick "Obsidian Dynamite" for the Theater View skin in Options > Theater View.  You will need build 273 (or newer) installed.

The skin is simple, so look here "[MC]\FullSkins\Obsidian Dynamite" if you'd like to use your own videos.  Please share any results.

(note that this may require a newish video card and video card driver)

Nice. I can think of a few ways to use that.
Only problem with the example is that the moving background is still on, and blends with the video. You can just set the Alpha to 100 instead of 95 in the xml file to get ridd of it, but I guess it might use a little processing power anyways. Best to remove it from the Base 1.xml I guess.

Man, this made me wanna make my own skins again.

No video showing... I take it that it's meant to appear when I select "Video" ?

Well, I surely hope Kid Dynamite is not being swept under the rug.

ATI only ?

The WMV ver., I could not get to run on any mach.

The FLV ver. , ran on all.

Even the old JRiver test mach. (VIA chipset,S3 vid) (Now replaced)

This is so coooooooooool.

For the people that dont know what Im talking about :

Here are some stills :

The mini Dashounds you see in the background is actually a vid that is running (looping).

http://pix01.com/BB@yM4b

(I had a crude vid made to demo, but pix01 doesnt seem to like JRiver vid code)

I hope this might get some attention in the near future.

Cause my HTPC is stuck on build 271 w/FLV

And someday, I would like to update it with the marvelous changes in recent builds.

Thanks

Video doesn't work correctly with the noire template, but should with the others in recent builds.

Integrating movies into Theater View is one of my favorite "sucky gimmicks" in version 12. (allusion to an old thread where we got beat up about one of our new features)

Make sure you try it (and even try your own movie) if you haven't yet.

Matt thanks for your post.

After trying builds 273 to around 278 (on diff. machs.) and not getting anywhere with Kid Dynamite.

I thought the wmv ver. was tabled.

after reading your post, I tried again with the latest build.

and it works.

 ;D

I did change the xml to fill the screen and put the spinning cube back.

Thanks again

Im a very happy camper.

I like this skin. It is really nice.

Now, we need someone who is really artistic to make some really nice background videos with animation :). (no offense to the obsidian dynamite creator - I just meant some background video that reflects the activity/browsing status).

Pong?
Nah, not pong. Pong was a real anti-climax!

I think the original post has been nuked, which doesn't surprise me, there was not much intelligence involved if I recall correctly. The killer return is still there though!!

VMR9 ?

Try playing a WMV in MC.

Does it play ok.

If so, then rt clk screen, select DirectShow filters / Select filters.

At the bottom left, does it say  VRM9 ? (Dont change it)

Do you have any vid files that will play at VRM9 ?

FLV, MPG, ect.

If so, try changing Obsidian Dynamite Main.xml. (Dynamite.wmv to your file)

And copy your vid file over to the Dynamite skin folder.

I have been playing with diff. Vid types and even though I might have them set at VRM7 in MC

Kid Dynamite plays them at VRM9.

Also if you are using a file type that is a resource hog and Kid Dynamite is running slow, try lowering the frame rate to 10.

Tools/Options/Theater View/Advance/Frame rate.

Vid. drivers can also be a problem.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply Griff, but the issue solved itself on one machine at least. I simply reverted to XP from Vista, reinstalled Vid drivers and K-lite, and it now works :-\
This is especially wierd as another XP machine with a similar card won't play it (as the Theater View background). I will try updating the drivers on that (when I replace it's dead power supply) and see if that helps, although I think the drivers are reasonably up to date.

FWIW, it now works no matter if I'm using VMR7,9 or enhanced. The video also always played correctly as a standard video file, just not as the BG. Neither of my Vista machine were/are able to show the file, and both of these had vid drivers no more than a month old.

I'll let you know what I find for the others having a similar issue.
