MC problem with podcasts
« on: July 10, 2007, 08:35:48 pm »

MC: 1) does not download the proper number of episodes (sometimes multiples of the same podcast, sometimes skips downloads); 2) fails to download subscribed feeds in a timely fashion; 3) fails to delete the proper number of episodes; and 4) is not able to sync the proper episodes as established by a smartlist to my handheld.

These issues are fairly longstanding.  If anything, MC v. 12 is less capable of dealing with podcasts than v. 11.

Thank you.

Hi LaneNem,

Sorry for the long delay in addressing these, but I am working on podcasts now.
For starters, upgrade to the latest version:
Quote
12.0.277 (7/05/07)

2. Fixed: In Podcasts, getting a content URL was too agressive when the enclosure url was invalid.

12.0.275 (7/03/07)

1. Changed: Logging for podcasts.

12.0.272 (6/29/07)

3. Fixed: Some incorrect podcast feeds specified episode URLs in strange places
4. Changed: Removed lots of podcast logging.

12.0.271 (6/28/07)

5. Fixed: Podcasting memory leak.
6. Fixed: Many threading issues with podcasts, which could cause many types of problems (including deleted threads re-appearing).
7. Changed: Reduced the amount of Podcast debug logging.
9. Fixed: Deleted Podcast Episodes would reappear.

and so on...

Thanks.  Sounds good.

When I use the ctrl + J "check for updates" function, there's an indication that: "No updates available at this time."

I'm still having a big problem with MC and podcasts.  Although MC now seems to retrieve the most recent episodes of my subscribed feeds, it will not sync the most recent episodes to my handheld.  For example, I can generally sync NYTimes podcasts, but only those that are more than 1 day old.

Any advice?

Can you verify that the podcasts that won't sync are playable?

Thanks,

That is correct.  The podcasts are downloaded and will play on my desktop through MC; they will not transfer to my handheld.

Example: The podcast smartlist I have includes the 2 newest episodes of the NY Times podcasts (http://www.nytimes.com/services/xml/rss/nyt/podcasts/frontpage.xml).  It currently includes the 07/12 and 07/13 podcasts.  After multiple sync attempts, my handheld has two (duplicate) 07/09 episodes and one from 07/10.  Another example, BBC on my handheld:Two (duplicate) 07/10 episodes and one 07/11 episode.

What is the filetype for a file that won't play?  MP3?

Archos 604

Also, rating playlist are not syncing.  My 4 and 5 star rated songs consolidated as a MC playlist are no longer syncing.  The songs are on the handheld, but not listed under the "rating" playlist (they were before in one of the earlier MC builds).
