Toolbar mode skin?
« on: July 29, 2007, 02:08:25 am »

Would it be possible to make a skin for MC12 that is just like the one used for JetAudio 7 when it is in toolbar mode?   Perhaps something like the one pictured below.  I must admit that I have been tempted to switch to JA just for this reason.  Their toolbar auto hides and and has the ability to be under any window, not just on top of it.  I know MC has mini skins, in fact a couple that are slim like this.  However, they have none that comes close to looking as good as this.  What are the chances someone could create this?  I'd even be willing to pay for it if need be.

It's a good idea, but I must admit that this mini skin would be too big for me - it takes much space after the task bar.

The way I have my system setup it would work perfectly.  I have my taskbar set at the top to auto hide.  Then I could have this at the bottom also set to auto hide.  I have a black colored background and if the skin were dark that would be perfect.

a playingnow plugin skin could do most of that.

couldn't do:
  • autohide (see 'could do' list for options)
  • preferences and skin switcher buttons
  • rip, record, burn etc. buttons
  • equaliser
  • repeat options
  • scrolling track info text
  • exit MC button

Could do:
  • URL link to MC homepage or interact
  • always on, always on top. popup on song change. show/hide via hotkey press
  • duration display and slider
  • track info display using any data from the MC database
  • custom tooltips using any data available from the MC database
  • volume slider with tooltip
  • show/hide MC button
  • show playlist button
  • track rating stars. (rate playing, or previous track by clicking)

I currently use a thin playingnow skin that matches the noire skin:

if you wanted something like that in a JA stylee, I would just need to know what screen resolution you use.

I was under the impression that the PN pliugin was no more because Rhino had been hired by J River.  Is that not true.  I can't find recent versions of it anywhere.  Nor can I find any skins for it.  I had purchased PN a while back, although I have no clue where my info is, because I liked it a olt.  As for my resolution, it is 1154x864.

playingnow's home is not in a very stable state atm, so if you want the most current stable release you may download v1.3.0.9 from here. All the skins I (and some others) turned out for it are available here. If you previously purchased a liscence but have lost your liscence file, I'd suggest getting in touch with rhinobanga to see if he can help you out. It's also my understanding that liscences for playingnow can still be purchased from rhinobanga.
I'll see what can be done regarding a JA clone. I warn you though, even after all this time, my photoshop skills are still very slow and limited ;)

Thanks :)
The 'skin' is obviously just the slim bar running along MC's top toolbar there. It's made to fit allways on top of a 1680 pixel wide screen without obscuring the control buttons of other maximised windows. I'll knock out a 1600 wide version if you like it, by taking 80 pixels or so out of the track info area. I'll give you a shout when it's done.

After moving to Vista, the windows buttons are a lot wider than the theme I was using with XP, so at the moment, the noire-tb skin for playingnow is obscuring the minimise button and half of the maximise/restore button. I need to chop a few pixels out of the info area to fix this slight problem. I will try to get it uploaded before the end of the month.

£5 GBP for the latest and greatest...

interesting little comment posted here though so it might be worth hanging on for a while. then again, maybe not, you can never really tell how these things will pan out in the end :)
