Sony?
« on: August 06, 2007, 05:58:25 pm »

I realise this is probably akin to asking whether the entire development team of MC would post a photo giving each other goatses, but I wonder if the idea of supporting Sony Walkman devices which normally use Sonicstage has ever been thrown up.

Sony was a very closed world for a long time.  We tried many times to break down the walls.  Eventually, we gave up.

I've read that their recent devices are not just ATRAC, and might be possible.  It would be easy to test with MC12.

The very latest (the B series) is UMS. I don't know whether this is part of a bigger move or just a test toe in the water. But what I'm interested in are the devices which depend on Sonicstage for loading but don't use the old totally locked-down DRM.

Wikipedia definition of UMS
Is that what you mean?

If so, it's probably just a drive to Windows and MC12 should be able to write to it.

But it's possible that the device expects something special.

Could you try it?

As I said, the *latest* is UMS, so it should work just fine with j.River. What I'm interested in are those that don't, and require Sonicstage in order to work.

Those won't work.  They're closed to MC.

Figured as much. Guess it's finally time to unload the useless, pretty POS's.
