Zen Vision Sync and Playback Problem
« on: August 07, 2007, 04:03:24 pm »

Ok, I will try again since the other thread was locked even though nothing illegal was being discussed (I was just speculating why it might not be working). I am syncing a playlist to my Zen Vision and specifying to always convert to CBR WMA.  On some files it never converts when syncing (just transfers it as is) and then I get a "Playback Error" on the Zen Vision when I try to listen to them.  They convert fine when I transfer in WMP.  I need help getting this working  in MC otherwise I will have to use WMP which I would rather not do.

It would be worth trying 301, just out today.

Unfortunately, I have the same results with 301.

Have you tried clearing the handheld cache? Do the converted files play using MC? Which Vision do you have?

I don't have the cache enabled and I reformatted the Zen to start from a clean slate.  The files play fine in MC (they are not converted when transferred which is the problem).  I have the Zen Vision 30 GB.

What is the original format of the files that don't convert? Do any convert? Are the files protected?

Well, that's what got me in trouble with the last thread  :D.  Most of them convert fine except for some tracks that were originally purchased off of MSN.  These tracks were burned to CD (totally legit with MSN) and then ripped from the CD into MC.  They should not be protected at this point and as I said they do convert fine in WMP.  I guess I will try to re-rip them to try to remove any residual protection.

Ok, now I'm getting really frustrated and about to run crying to WMP.  For some reason, MC won't shake the idea that these are protected files but WMP has no problem with them.

I tried to delete them from the library and reimport such that it wouldn't use the "old" tags but now it will only reimport one of the 30 files that I deleted from the library?  It inexplicably skips over the rest even though I have the "Ignore previously deleted files" option unchecked??  Any no I didn't accidentally delete the files from disc - they are still there but just skipped over on import.

In case anyone cares, I fixed this by starting over from scratch with a new library and reimporting everything.  The tracks then showed up fine (without protection).  There really needs to be a way to actually "delete" a track from the library.  Deleting and reimporting a track reuses the tags from before and "Remove tags" didn't work.
