Hello - At the behest of an admin I'm x-posting this thread to the MC12 forum:

http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=41309.msg287088#msg287088

If anyone has a good working solution for lossless encoding and playback using MC12 on Vista, I'd like to hear from you.

Also I'm not looking for a WAV-based solution... I can do that for free using WMP11, but I'd rather use MC12 ;).

Regards - Michael

where's the CD information dialogue gone to these days?

I grabbed an old cd to do a test burn here, and it says "cd lookup failed". I now believe I've unwittingly added it to the YADB database as "Unknown Album" ?

OK, I found it.... I also checked the option that goes "if no matches are found, show the cd submission dialogue." and it is selected, but no dialogue popped up for me.

ripping to flac now....

APE works well.  So does FLAC.

Hi all - Well it appears that my mystery is solved.

My first rip with MC12 was Thievery Corporation 'Versions' album.  As it happens, the first couple of tracks seem to have little pops etc. like an old vinyl album... 'cept it is of course all digital.    It sounds exactly the same in WMP11 and in my car CD player.  That is the way the tracks were recorded!

So I don't think it was the codec or MC12 @ all... how embarrasing for me  :-[.

The good news is the other 5 discs I've ripped to FLAC so far sound great... and transcode to MP3 on my lil' creative mp3 player no problem.  So I'm back in the saddle again.

Thanks all who replied though, that itself speaks well for the product.

Regards - Michael

But you're man enough to admit it and we've all grown in the process.  Thanks for reporting the outcome.

1900--

I actually blamed J River once when I couldn't find my car keys.  It's important not to let these guys get too big-headed, even at the risk of sounding ridiculous in the process.
