No cover art after upgrade from MC10 [solved]
« on: August 23, 2007, 09:19:26 am »

I recently upgraded from MC10 to MC12 and imported my music files. I pointed MC12 to the cover art folder and initiated a 'Build missing thumbnails' in the option. However, none of my imported files are able to display their associated cover art. Most of my cover art is not embedded in the tags themselves. Any help is appreciated.

Select a few tracks and right click, then Cover Art/Quick find...

Thanks for the reply. That seems to work only with some of my albums. Others it just doesn't appear to do anything. Any idea why it would work for some and not others?

Wow...this is going to take forever. But I guess I'll have to try Alex B's suggestions. Thanks again for your help.

Do you have an MC10 library backup file? You can restore an MC10 library backup file in MC12. A library restore restores everything that you had in the old library, including the cover art links. Of course you need to have the actual cover art files in the same place where you had them before. If I recall correctly MC10 saved them in a subfolder in the [MC program path]\Data\ folder (... by default). In MC12 you can find the restore tool here: File > Libary > Restore Library...

If you don't have a library backup file, but you happen to have the MC10 data folder intact you can create a new MC12 library there (= in the subfolder where the .jmd files are). MC12 will automatically convert the old MC10 library to the MC12 format. (Back up the old data folder first.)

If you have MC10 still installed you can create a new library backup file and restore it in MC12.

Edit: fixed a couple of errors & typos

So you're saying it's simply a matter of restoring a MC10 backup? It's compatible with MC12?

The format has changed, but MC12 can read the old format. An MC10 library is converted automatically to the new format. All file data should be preserved including the playback statistics.

petekarn,

just remember to check this before the restore:

Of course you need to have the actual cover art files in the same place where you had them before

However, the "Quick Find..." tool should have been able to find the old cover art. Have you used the default cover art naming scheme: Artist - Album.jpg ?. If yes, did you actually set the cover location option to point to the correct place? (Tools > Options > File Location > Cover Art ,  and in there: "In a specified folder" and write or paste the correct folder path).
