Last weekend I dared to act as a DJ on a marriage with MC12.
Yes, I love MC - but using it as a DJ software it's far away from being acceptable! My experience was quite bad...
MC12.318 crashed 4 times that evening. The situations seemed random. After playing 1 or two hours, actions like "locate artist" or choosing view schemes let MC crash. Luckily, I could play the songs until end then I needed to restart - so the breaks were not more than 10 seconds.
I like the option to start more than one instance of MC12. My plan was to use the first instance to entertain the guests - zone 1- and to use the second to prelisten songs via headphone - zone 2. At first, it seemed to work perfect. After playing some tracks, suddenly no more output. After some seconds I realized that the zones synchronized themselves so the music was played via headphone only. This was an awkward thing. I tried it some more times and most times I was quick enough with prelistening and then closing the second instance to prevent another disaster. I hoped the two instances could be handled separately! ( I know I could have used two zones in one instance but 1. switching is slower, 2. I forgot this function)
Also the views get synchronized after clicking in both instances. I used the tabbed view for instance 1 and the column view for instance 2. After switching between them and clicking around they were the same.
Other problems:
- When trying to use one view for the "playing now" playlist and the other one to find new tracks the search term entries always impacts all views => the playing now list gets empty
- Very often I accidentally lost the playing now view because I had the focus on it before I clicked on a playlist or view scheme
- The transition between songs is very static. If songs have a hard end I want no smooth blending out - in other cases this is nice. So at least I want to have easy access to control this. Best case would be if I could store the transition after a song individually.
- Moving the track sequence is circumstantial with mouse. Is there a way to change the sequence without mouse (e.g. alt+cursorUpDown)?
There were some more minor issues - but the above described are the most critical.
One more wish: I would like to assign actions to keyboard shortcuts. E.g. adding songs to certain playlists, adding songs as next to play or to end, ...
I hope you will have a look on such features sooner or later. I'm pretty sure that I'm not the only one who is looking forward to such improvements!
