Cover art via UPnP on XBMC
« on: October 28, 2007, 07:28:58 am »

Hi,

has anyone experience with accessing the MC UPnP server from the XBOX XBMC?
I successfully got a connection and streaming music works fine, but I don't see cover arts. Neither folder.jpg nor embedded cover art in mp3-tags.
XBMC is a really nice software, as is MC, and I would really like to get this working.

Is there anyone who got that working? Or is embedded cover art via UPnP not supported?

Greetz,

Ought to work, although I've not managed to get video thumbnails working which should.
Have a look at this page http://www.xboxmediacenter.com/wiki/index.php?title=Thumbnails
My first port of call would probably be trying with cover art as folder.jpgs, as according to that page these should definitely work.

I don't see cover art either.

Is anybody sufficiently techie able to understand this page?

It's a bug report for xbmc where the developers seem to wash their hands of it and say its up to the server to support this. Any chance of JRiver being one of those servers?

Cheers,

Mark.

They are just saying that one way of passing cover art is via the UPnP protocol: when you send the information about a track, you include information about where the cover art is located. If the server doesn't provide that info, the client cannot receive the cover art. (The except is when cover art is a tag in the content file). MC's UPnP Server doesn't do this, yet. I will get to it one day...

Thanks for yet another speedy reply.
On a Sunday!
I look forward to this feature being implemented.

Mark.

PS:   Sleep: ring any bells? You should try it!

Forgot to ask, when I read the above, can cover art be sent via a tag when I send my audio files via UPnP using JRiver at the moment?

My files are WMA lossless and I get JRiver to transcode to VBR mp3 by default.

If this does work, then my next question will be how I can embed my cover art (which is folder.jpg files in each album's directory) into a couple of files to check it all works.

Regards,

M.

Give it a try, just make the cover art a tag in one of your files and see if the XBMC picks it up. Let us know...

OK, I'll give it a try. However, as expected, I'm afraid my next question will be how I can embed my cover art (which is folder.jpg files in each album's directory). I really can't figure it out.
Thanks,

M.

what do you mean by "tag"?  One of the tags in my MC database is the path to the coverart file, which is in the coverart directory on the PC.  I don't think it's in the ID3 tag, just the MC database.  It doesn't show up in XBMC.  What should I do different?

There's a way to store the actual cover art in a tag, instead of a filename... -- j

Embedding the coverart in the mp3s themselves doesn't seem to work.  Any suggestions?

It'll have to be changed in the server then.
