« on: November 06, 2007, 03:51:32 pm »

The last two builds i tried (363 and 358) both are unable to convert WMA lossless to MP3 using any of the encoder options - also tried on tow different VISTA systems
build 240 on XP works OK

I can't reproduce this.

Does the problem exist only when you convert WMA Lossless to MP3?

Can you convert WMA Lossless to some other format (e.g. APE) and separately some other format to MP3?

Good point - I can convert WMA Lossless to Ape or FLAC for example
but APE to MP3 fails also using either the LAME or Go-Go converters
unfortunateley I need the MP3 converters to get the libary onto my iPOD

tested with 365 and still have the same problem
ie.
ape > MP3 fails
wma > mp3 fails
wma > ape works

thanks

FYI - Vita32Bit Ultimate, MC12 V363 - converts from WMA Lossless to MP3 using the LAME encoder just fine for me

Try uninstalling, reinstalling, and running as administrator the first time you use the encoder.

It's possible the MP3 encoder installation didn't work properly.

Did MP3 encoding work before you installed the 358/363 builds or was this your first try on Vista?

Can you see the MP3 encoder plugin (= enc_mp3.dll) installed in the Plug-in Manager? (Try to access the MP3 encoder plug-in info in Tools > Plug-in Manager.)

Did MC download the MP3 encoder files when you accessed the MP3 encoding options for the first time? You can check if the lame.exe and gogo.exe files exist in the [MC program path]\Plugins folder.

What exactly happens when you try to convert a file to MP3?

It used to work - have used Vista for some months but cant remember when it started to fail - pretty sure it was build 358

I can see it in plugin manager v 2.0.80

It did download - both gogo.exe and lame.exe re in the plugins directory

I ran into that exact problem, but keep in mind that the root cause of my problem may differ from yours, so your mileage may vary.  Also, this was under MC11, not MC12, for that's what I had installed at the time (last summer) when I ran into this issue under Vista.

Anyway, under Vista, I had to manually install the Windows Media Encoder 9 Series encoder for the conversion to start working again.

So again, if your problem is with WMA 10 or WMA 11 (whatever you used to create the file in the first place), then this might not be an exact solution for you, but maybe it will point you in the right direction. <shrug>

Thanks for the suggestions but no - dongrading to previous versions of MC (ie. versions that work in XP) - Failed
Checked temp directory and loads of space available (340Gb)
Installed WME9 - Still failed

I think it may be a vista issue but one we have to get around/fix for MC12 to work on a patched vista

All suggestions gratefully received! only one PC in house capable of moving trcks to ipod and thats in the loft!

Is the problem restricted to hand held conversions? Are you able to convert a file to MP3 format with the converter or rip Audio CD tracks in MP3 format?
