Can't get Library Client to Play (Resolved)
« on: November 20, 2007, 12:15:43 am »

I followed the Help instructions to set up Library Server and Client. Everything seemed ok. The Client's Library changed from x's to the blue icon, but when I try to play a song I get the: "Media Center encountered errors while trying to play..." message.

What might be the problem?

Library Server serves the default library.  Can you play from the default library on the server?

What format (mp3? ape?) are you trying to play?

Sorry, my C drive died a few hours after posting! :(, But I'm finally back up and running and still can't get the client to play anything and getting the same error message.

More info:

The music files are all 256 - 320 mp3s.

Both machines are running build .354. The server is using the Default Library. Both machines are connected to the router via Cat 5 cable. I have no probs sharing photos and other files.

The server is getting requests for cover art files, client is getting the cover art. the client library seems to be populated (the cover art is there and red x's have been replaced by the blue music note. This is an example of a file path on the client: "m01p://192.xxx.0.100:80/D:\Audio 2\10CC\01 - Dreadlock Holiday.mp3". However when I double click on a song I get error message that I mentioned in my first post.

In the server log after a bunch of cover art requests I get this:

11/23/07 15:54:50 - Received request for cover art: D:\Audio 2\10 CC\Live In Concert, Vol. 2 (1996)\10 cc - Live In Concert (vol 2) - 06 - Slow Down.mp3
11/23/07 15:55:11 - Received request for a file: 6858926511710010511132509249483267679266108111111100121328411111711410511511611 5324049575755419248493245326811410197100108111991073272111108105100971214610911 251
11/23/07 15:55:11 - Error sharing file, it is not part of the library.

Is the client machine possibly too slow?

So, any ideas? Jay.

I tried that and it worked! Thanks!

It was my understandngng that it didn't matter so much which build was used as long as server and client were running the same one. And upon trying a few other builds that does seem to in fact be true. I just happen to use a build that wasn't working, (at least with my systems).

Thanks again, Jay.  MC Rocks!

Yes, sometimes we accidentally introduce bugs to the system. I'd suggest flogging or something equally dire for the programmer responsible for introducing that particular bug, but, well, you see, it was me.... sorry :)

Well, that's good, 'cuz I wouldn't want to blame the wrong person, (like me)!   ;)

BTW: The server/client thing is great! I've been able to add music-on-demand to 2 new areas of the house.
