Wow, I've installed MP9, 10, 11, 12 50 times over the years. I just installed latest MC12 on a new computer, Vista Home Premium, and it will NOT play any MP3 files. These are old files that have been moved from PC to PC for years. I've tried new ones. Windows Media Player plays them all fine. I have an M-Audio Revo 5.1 with the ONLY Vista driver available. I've installed the latest version, uninstalled it, installed an older version, still won't play. I haven't tried to play anything else, I don't care about anything else! When I click PLAY, the song shows up on the top of the window, but the play time stays at zero. The little eq bars on either side pop up to something and that's it. I can stop the play, pick another song, play, nothing!! I just did default installs and let it happen.

MC has just worked for me for years and years, so I don't even know where to look!! I'm not an expert MP guy, I just play songs and podcasts while riding my bike trainer! On my other two pc's it works fine.

Where to start? I don't even know what to search for in the forum to find a solution to something this basic!!

Try this: Tools/Options/Playback and switch between Direct Sound and Wave Out.

Vista drivers are still not all OK.

Must be the M-Audio driver because my other two computers are Vista also, and they're fine, but Creative. Might look and see if I have a Creative sound card laying around. I've not been too impressed with this M-Audio and I think it's drivers, card is probably fine!

Doesn't the M-Audio also do ASIO?  MC playback options can use that.

Yup, M-Audio does ASIO, that works, too!!
